EFL Trophy 2nd round - Port Vale away

Postby Upper West » Wed Nov 13, 2019 1:34 pm

As runners up in our group we will play one of the Northern Section group winners away in the 2nd round (but not Everton U21 who were the winners of our group)

The other Northern section winners are

Leicester City U21
Accrington Stanley
Salford
Port Vale
Blackpool
Manchester City U21
Manchester United U21

Unlike the group games the U21 teams can play at home in the 2nd round

Old Trafford or Etihad would be nice. We did have a win at Maine Road in this competition although it is hard to believe it was 21 years ago.

That win of course was against a full Manchester City team when they were in League 1 rather than the U21 team.

I wouldn't be surprised if both Manchester clubs pay a L2 club to play the game at OR play it at their training pitch.

Man City have a 6000 seater (i think) stadium on their complex where they play Youth champions league fixtures etc. They'll use that

Wasn’t there something about the B teams playing the games at their actual stadium? I know Chelsea B played a couple of games at Stamford Bridge

Leicester City or Manchester City for me please. I have seen the Stags play them in a first team game and would rather see the Stags play Utd first team v first team.

As to who I fancy? Portia De Rossi and Elle McPherson from the film Sirens in a paddling pool of lime green jelly. Just don’t tell Mrs Spartacus.

You are right, these are the rules, basically home ground of club or reversal at request of home team.

“6.4 All Matches (other than the final) shall unless otherwise agreed by the League (in its absolute discretion) be played at the venue registered by the Home Club:

6.4.1 in the case of EFL Clubs, pursuant to Regulation 13.6; and

6.4.2 in the case of Invited Clubs, as the first teams’ Stadium (as that term is defined in the Premier League rules).

Guidance

The EFL reserves the right to ‘reverse’ any fixture on application of the home club but in its absolute discretion.”

Holders Portsmouth have been drawn against Northampton Town in the Leasing.com Trophy second round after topping Group J in the south section.
Pompey, who beat Sunderland before a competition record crowd of 85,021 in last year's final, were undefeated in their three group matches.
League One leaders Ipswich Town face a trip to fellow promotion chasers Peterborough United.
Seven Premier League academy sides were also in the last-32 draw.
Manchester City and Manchester United's under-21 sides drew Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere Rovers respectively, although in both cases the ties have been switched to their opponents' home grounds.
Chelsea's under-21s go to Walsall, Newport go to Brighton's development squad while Leicester Under-21s host Doncaster.
Salford City, in their first season in the competition, welcome the Wolves youngsters and Fleetwood drew Everton Under-21s.
MK Dons, who lifted the trophy in 2008, host 2017 winners Coventry City.
The competition is regionalised up until the quarter-finals, when the draw becomes open.

Ties will be played in the week commencing 2 December.

As predicted. How gutted would you be to get drawn away at those two clubs expecting to go to their grounds!?
