As Vic Reeves says, ‘75 % of statistics are made up’. Just watch and enjoy or get frustrated, scream and shout. But whatever you do enjoy your football.

Expected Goals

Newport County 2.4 Mansfield Town 1.5 (HT: 1.5 v 0.2)
Mansfield 1.7 Morecambe 0.8 (HT: 0.8 v 0.75)
Carlisle United 1.1 Mansfield Town 0.8 (HT: 0.6 v 0.65)
Mansfield Town 2.6 Leyton Orient 1.7 (HT: 1.8 v 0.25)
Mansfield Town 1.9 Stevenage 0.5 (HT: 0.65 v 0.4)
Exeter City 1.3 Mansfield Town 0.4 (HT: 1.2 v 0.2)
Mansfield Town 1.4 Scunthorpe United 0.9 (HT: 0.75 v 0.5)
Crawley Town 2 Mansfield Town 1.9 (HT: 1.6 v 0.6)
Mansfield Town 1.2 Cambridge United 2.6 (HT: 0.75 v 0.3)
Port Vale 1.4 Mansfield Town 1.8 (HT: 0.6 v 0.6)

We are 12th in the league in xG table (W4 D3 L3 = 15 points) so we are therefore under achieving by 5 points. The xGs for the last two away games of 1.9 and 1.8 beat and equal our best scores away from home from last season so to only pick up one point from Crawley and Port Vale is disappointing. We only won 6 games away last season and so if we carry on playing like this we could easily beat that target.

According to xG, we should have beaten Morecambe, Orient, Stevenage and Scunthorpe United, drawn with Carlisle, Crawley Town and Port Vale and lost against Newport, Exeter and Cambridge United.

It means quite a lot. It’s an indicator of performance levels beyond what the table shows you.

My gut reaction was that the stats should be slightly better Stags 2002. Just had a quick look and the stats show a very small improvement:

Number of Passes: 22nd (22nd)
Accurate Short Passes: 22nd (23rd)

Also the 5th most fouled played in the league, surprised he's that low. 2.9 fouls won per game.

I think the reference of only 3 fouls per game is the surprising fact.

He must appeal for a foul and go down at least three times in first ten minutes of a game.

Clearly need to watch out for Danny Mayor today who is the best player in League 2. Most of Plymouth's goals seem to come from him and Callum McFadzean down the left side. Could be a tough game for Kellan Gordon and Hayden White.

However at the same time the majority of goals that Plymouth have conceded seem to come from crosses from their left hand side. The left sided centre half and captain, Gary Sawyer, is left exposed at times by McFadzean pushing up at left wing back. There is plenty of space to exploit behind him in the same way that there is often plenty of space to exploit behind Mal Benning who is in the top 5 for interceptions.

Should be a cracking game

Key Passes - League 2
1= Danny Mayor 24 Plymouth
1= David Worrall 24 Port Vale
3 Jake Hessenthaler 23 Grimsby

4 Theo Vassell 16 Macclesfield

5= Danny Rose 13 Mansfield
5= Charlie Kirk 13 Crewe
