Should the club be signing .........

Postby part time pete » Sat Aug 17, 2019 7:08 am

Players who have had problems in the past with the police or should we be giving players second, third or even fourth chances.

Discuss.
Those accustomed to privilege may feel that equality is oppression.

I’m all for giving young lads second chances, but the success rate of certain types* appears to be quite limited.

I don’t think it’s that binary.

It depends on the problem and when it was.

Should we sign sex offenders? Clearly not.

Should we sign a player in his late 20s who was done for D and D when he was 17?
Possibly.

There’s no problem with signing reformed characters or taking a chance on someone. People grow and mature especially footballers who often have different problems to us folk and sometimes haven’t grown up when they’ve been exposed to the pressure. The trouble for a club like us is judging which have moved on and which are bad apples, the saying goes it only takes one idiot but you shouldn’t give up just because you’ve found one

The trouble is we seem to buy so called reformed players who turn out to be not so reformed. I’m sorry but a leopard never changes it’s spots. Get rid of them ASAP. Let’s get new players in to replace them.

Maybe only sign one at a time.

Many criminals will end up offending through desperation of their own situation.
Professional footballers have a privilege many of us would sacrifice a testicle to have, and if they're committing crimes it's because they're just the bloody worst. Do not sign.

I think it depends what the problem is and can it be managed.

the performances and results so far this season have looked like something has disrupted the squad as many performances are well below what we know they can produce.

so id remove the bad apple from the club. Especially if the things on Facebook are true.

After all the club is more important than an individual player.

I remember the uproar when certain clubs wanted to sign Ched Evans, So many do gooders treating him like a diseased Leper before he had a chance to clear his name, Many posters on here didnt want him,
His career at Sheff U ruined and his name trashed by the likes of Jessica Ennis and many others connected with the blades...I wonder if those who were quick to throw the first stones were as quick to apologise for wrecking his life.

This is actually about the systems in place at the club. Just like any business, you employ people who fit your organisation.
If there is a set up in which players with previous issues around drink or drugs can access support frim the PFA ambassadors like Murray then it could be a sensible signing.

This is the same for players with discipline issues whether on or off the pitch.. Holdsworth's signings were, at times, like the Dirty Dozen and he didn't appear to have any of their respect. Evans just appeared to bully or belittle players. The question is whether players who earn £2 to £4k a week have a sufficient understanding of the short term nature of their job and therefore give enough of a monkeys to listen.

The All Blacks say "No Dickheads".

The sudden lack of discipline including the silly sendings off is worrying.

The uproar at the time was probably due to not wanting to sign a convicted rapist (which he was at the time).

Probably Flitcroft

These are young men with lots of cash, they'll make mistakes. Life does, however, go on.

I was a bit of a hot headed twatt when I was a younger man..and made a few stupid mistakes which I paid for and sincerely regret..I was given a second chance and like to think Im a much better person for it,
I like to think anyone who makes a stupid mistake in life will learn from it and come out the other side a more decent human being and not thrown to the wolves like some on here would like.
