Mansfield v Rangers U23, 1pm ko, Sat 27 July

Postby Alwaysa5tag » Mon Jul 15, 2019 5:42 pm

Heard a rumour on the grapevine that an announcement for a friendly against Rangers at the One Call is imminent.

Has anyone else heard anything?

Cancel a friendly v Stockport and then arrange a friendly against Rangers.

You couldn’t make it up.

Be better to have it at Ibrox, especially for us North of the wall. :)

I've heard it's Rangers 3.00 followed by Celtic at 7.45. Can't see any problems with this :o

As long as the game is played during marching season I can’t see it being a problem. Should be no need to close any gates.

If you mean for this season, then there’s no space. They have a game on our only free Saturday.

Surely Marvin Gaye impersonators are the least of all reliable sources?

Rangers are playing Derby on the Sunday, so they could pop into the Mill on Saturday for a behind closed doors game/work out.

A bit like the Portugal fixture (for security reasons) no one knew.

the training venue in Portugal was not suitable for admitting spectators (certainly in the numbers that Rangers take). That was the reason.

They're at home to Derby though, not away. Bit of a trek for a behind closed doors game.

Wouldn’t know the difference between the under 23 side and the first team as I couldn’t tell you one players name who plays for Rangers!

A friendly against Rangers would require planning on a military level. The sheer numbers that would descend on the town, not only to go to the game but just to drink would be something that Notts Police would be hard pressed to justify the cost of for a non-competitive game.

Shame really, as Rangers fans away produce an amazing atmosphere.

It's a bit of a concern that we are playing another U23 side. Blackburn sent a young side, Forest are sending an U23 side. Is this the sort of preparation we need before starting our league campaign ?

Pleased with this, another chance for us to give another good show of ourselves against a huge club, hopefully the start of a good relationship.

Rangers will bring thousands. How come we can play this but we can’t play the Stockport one?

Why would Rangers fans travel that far to watch the under 23s?

I would imagine there are enough Rangers fans in Mansfield to fill the mill on their own.

True, there used to be a bus load going to every home game a couple of years back form the Brown Cow. All season ticket holders. Not sure about now like
