Mayor and O'Shea

Postby stagmanrob » Thu Apr 11, 2019 2:42 pm

Both in the League 2 team of the season, both been fantastic.

Currently stuck in the massive uncertainty surrounding Bury.
Grant, Smith and Walker all due to go back to Forest with no guarantees Forest will let us have Walker back....

Elsnik not here anymore...

That seems a large chunk of wage budget to me.
Surely we should (as bad as it sounds) be getting a head start on the queue of clubs in for them both this summer and make a move early?

I'm sure Lincoln would be in for them, but footballing-wise and not having a pair of strawberries as management, you'd think we'd he a better fit for them?

That would be 6 players from the League 2 team of the season if we pulled it off. Good players in League 2 are easily good enough for League 1 given how recent promoted teams have done.

I would hope we are trying.

Mayor would be brilliant, not so sold on O'Shea and his principles should get in the way given he is ex-Spireite. Mayor has worked with Flitcroft so it all depends on how they got on last time I suppose. It should be noted though that Mayor was not the same player in L1 than he was in L2 according to Bury fans.

For value for money, Grant has simply not been worth it. You could say the same for Otis Khan too really. On their day, they clearly can be game changers. They are just not consistent enough.

These two have proven they have a level of consistent performance. It just seems a no-brainer to me. I would assume the queue for both of them will be massive though, given they could be available on the cheap.

Really?! Are we really going there? You mean like for instance and immediately springing to mind Tom Curtis as he was totally lacking...

For most players it's just a job. They're not that bothered about club rivalries. Alan Smith, whilst at Leeds, was once asked on SKY, if there was a team he'd never play for. He said Man U. It didn't stop him signing for them a few years later.

That's their choice. If I was a player I wouldn't sign for a team I had played for's rivals.

If he has no principles and wants to sign for us, then great, our gain.

It doesn't necessarily apply to all players, as if they have been released and get offered a deal by a rival then I understand it somewhat, but O'Shea won't be short of options.

As I said, to them it's just a job. Smith was born and raised in Leeds, supported them, but still signed for ManUre. Money talks.

Yes I know, and he has no principles, which is the point I am making.

I don't think many players have principles, that's the point I'm making.

You could argue that having a family and a mortgage to pay but not signing for a team that ticks all the boxes but are based 7 miles down the road from the team you used to play for isn't having principles. I think we mistake players for fans, its a job for 99.9% of them. If I had a family to support I'd play for any professional football club.

If we sell CJ I’d Be in for both these and Walker back on season long loan.

No he’s not.

He’s 29 next and a reason no championship club has took a gamble on him.

With Burys current financial position we could have a chance on getting him.

Khan has not had a chance to show any consistency ,for whatever reasons ,likewise how anyone can judge grant on his games since january whether carrying any injury or not is either very short sighted or blinkered ,just my opinion ,

Nicky Adams is also a top player we should be in for. Always up there at the top end for assist stats every season.

Indeed, and Tony Lormer, and Randall and Moss, and vice versa Paul Holland and Clucas, and Shane Spitter etc etc. The belief that these players have any hidden agenda against performing for their biggest rivals is a myth. They are pros pure and simple, and have mortgages to pay. Whether they are any good or not is a different matter.

Bet he never thought he'd be at Clownty trying to get them out of the mire.

Find it hard to believe we could sign Mayor, I imagine a top/big L1 club will go for him.
