No more heroes anymore

Postby I am Spartacus » Mon Apr 01, 2019 2:56 pm

Heard today that upon the close of the season whether play off games or we go up automatically that the Sandy Pate is to close for refurbishment. Wasn’t told how the bar will look afterwards or if the booths with Mssrs Foster, Pate, Arnold, Lawrence etc will stay. Or indeed if there are to be new heroes on the wall.

So here goes, who would you want above the booths?

I am going for:
Sandy Pate - afterall the bar is named after him
Dave Caldwell - hero of mine
Keith Cassells - Greatest ever Stags player imo
Steve Whitehall - one hell of a centre forward
Kevin Hitchcock - so when one of mates drops a pint the usual jokes will ensue
Sir Mal Benning - well regarded, will be missed when gone and scored against them.

They just need to think about how the whole thing works (or doesn't).

How many times do people not bother because queues are too long. And the bar at the back where food is, they have to carry just fried chips by hand to the serving area, probably contravening all Health and Safety regs.

The toilet (singular) is a joke too.

Overall, it can't accommodate demand and internally isn't laid out well. I welcome the refurbishment. It needs wholesale changes.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

So who would you like to see in the bar on the wall? Or have you missed the point entirely for not all conversations have to be complaints.

I care more about the practicalities than the décor, but your list was pretty good.

Matt Green over Steve Whitehall every day of the week and twice on Tuesday night in Hereford.
These are my opinions , if you don't like them I have others...

Hells bells Spartacus, the booths need to be named after legends. Caldwell isn't a legend and never will be because after leaving us who did he sign for? Can't forgive him for that so not and never will be a legend end of. And he actually achieved nothing.

Steve Whitehall   Jesus, can't you think of a PROPER LEGEND like Greeny who without that night at Hereford we'd still
be scrabbling around in the pit of misery.

Cass couldn't lace Waggy's or Clarkey's boots up. Not saying he wasn't a good player but the other two were streets ahead.

Sir Mal can have the freedom of the town for the goal against them and if he gets promotion should be considered for legendary status like Sandy is.

Just need a long bar on the wall where the booths currently are. Spread enough bar staff across it and bingo, no more obstructive queues and faster serving.

Needs extending outwards to make it bigger. Never go in pre match, and never go to the bar straight after a game either, life's too short.

Let me think...
Jimmy Mac
Dave Smith
Gordon Hodgson
Peter Morris
Rod Arnold
Barry Foster.... would be a few.

We need to be looking at setting up a fan zone what clubs are doing now. Look at Accrington Stanley who are a step in front of most other clubs. £2 a pint and live bands on pre/post match is getting their fan zone packed solid.

If they win it's £1 a pint for an hour after the match!

Back on subject

How about photos of the fan's player of the year in Chronological order?

They could start at the bar and go around the walls in a clockwise direction with a few simple stats underneath. A good starting point for conversations and recalling escapades.

The SPB isn't big enough to accomodate all or even some of the real legends.

My list would be extensive.

What would be a good idea is to have Haslam and Cartoon Palmer etched into the urinals and toilets, it would be a very satisfying way of relieving yourself.
