Reserves at Alfreton?

Postby Dan » Mon Feb 18, 2019 11:20 pm

How come our reserves are playing Donny at Alfreton on Tuesday? What's wrong with the academy?

I'm lost on this statement (no offence meant)
Why don't they want to play on grass?
I'm totally lost on the 3G 4g pitches.
I wish a reporter would put the question to the players to get the truth about how they feel.

I used to play on Tarmac with a sock ball. Probably why I've had a back operation though :D
My thought is that when they score they can't slide on their knees on 3G.
I didn't on Tarmac just pointed to the sky like shearer :D

Think Dan is right.
Playing on the artifcial grass is not ideal, they need to play on grass to nurse their injuries little.

A lot of clubs including Derby keep the first team off them. Scotland managers trying to get them banned.

Lost 1-0. Fringe players not exactly knocking the door down to get in the team. Looks like Tomlinson might be playing Saturday given he wasn't involved.

Ajose doesn’t exactly look promising - his record at charlton last season was er questionable

Hopefully he’ll turn things around

I’d start him on Saturday. Ajose, Walker, and Grant caused FGR plenty of problems on the counter a couple of weeks back and we could have had 3 at least by half time on another day. Then we decided to change it after an hour bringing Jones on and moving CJ up front and they got on top of us for the rest of the game.

That would mean moving CJ again and I know we don’t get the absolute best out of him at RWB but for me he’s a better option there than Jones. He still offers a threat, and we look better going forward in my opinion.

Thought a few of the young lads looked promising.Smith looked assured on the ball.Fielding has got a few tricks sinclair although small did well when he came on.Mcdonald was his usual bustling self Donny fielded a strong side.Mallik Wilks looked more than useful.Flitcroft and Futcher watching as well.Saturdays team will probably be the same as at County giving them a chance to redeem themselves after such a poor performance.

Sharper ? He looked to be running in quick sand Saturday how Flitcroft deemed him fit enough beggars the question .

An entertaining game. Conrad Logan, Will Atkinson, Ben Turner, Alex MacDonald, Otis Khan and Nicky Ajose started for the Stags. Andy Butler, Tommy Rowe and Malik Wilks started for Donny Rovers. Donny Reserves were coached by former Stag, John Schofield. The game was settled by a goal from the very lively Malik Wilks in the 1st half who is on loan from Leeds United and who has started around 30 games this season for Donny and scored 11 goals. He's a player to add to our list of targets as I am sure a few League 1 and 2 clubs will be trying to sign him in the summer.

The Stags played better in the 2nd half and youngsters Tom Fielding and Jimmy Knowles had chances to equalise but the Donny keeper made some good saves. Alex MacDonald looks like he he is back on his way to full fitness although he could have been sent off for two yellow cards when he pulled a player back. Ben Turner looked more comfortable playing in the middle of the back three. The young lads played well - Aiden Walker, Alistair Smith, Henri Wilder, Riley O'Sullivan, Tom Fielding and Jimmy Knowles.

Nicky Ajose seemed to find himself out wide most of the time and sometimes elected to shoot from tight angles rather than pull the ball back. Will Atkinson worked hard. Otis Khan looks low on confidence at the moment. He needs to start making an impact on games.

thanks Tippy. Did Turner do enough to warrant another start on Saturday?

I'd like to see Tyrese Sinclair starting games for the reserves. I saw a comment above that he did well, again, coming on as sub. I think he's a special talent.

Tyrese Sinclair only came on at the end Martin so did not have much chance to impress.

Ben Turner certainly looked more comfortable in the middle of a back three than on the left. However I would say the same about Krystian Pearce and David Mirfin.

Another option for David Flitcroft is to play Mal Benning as the left sided centre half and CJ Hamilton at left wing back. Ryan Sweeney will then be back for Cheltenham at home and Port Vale away.

That is what I expected Flitcroft to do at Notts County, and is what I would have done.
