Fan’s Fare Petition - Dr Rosena Allin-Khan

Postby Johnny Rotten » Wed Jan 16, 2019 9:41 pm

Every week, away fans are stung when fixtures are rescheduled for TV rights, forcing them to miss out on the cheapest train tickets. It is deeply unfair that fans miss out on the cheapest tickets, cannot change the date or in some cases, cannot travel at all.

The Premier League, the English Football League and the Rail Delivery Group all support the creation of a scheme for fans to have flexibility when they buy train tickets. The scheme, proposed by Labour and called the Fans' Fare, would protect fans and ensure that they would not have to pay more for train tickets if their fixture was changed.

Figures show the extent to which fans are taken advantage of by train companies, even without last minute fixture changes. In Newcastle's first five away games this season, supporters would have had to spend £540 per person with Brighton and Liverpool joint second, having to find £380 for train travel in order to support their team.

Football, the rail industry and Labour agree that we need a Fans' Fare scheme, but the Government are dragging their feet.

Fans must not be at the mercy of billion pound broadcasting deals. Without supporters, football simply would not be the same. Fans' voices must be heard. We demand a Fans' Fare.

Unfortunately the train is a shocking mode of transport. Expensive and crowded, and an absolute fire hazzard on peak journeys are people crowd on.
