Again lads, you joke about Preston speed, he is a lumberer.

He ain't slow at all.

I think you are mixing him up with George Foster

Now don't you go dissing George! The best centre half, bar none, to grace our Amber shirt in my lifetime.

He has an unusual running style but is by no means a lumberer. I think on the whole he has been very impressive this season, as has the entire back line. We have the best defence in the league and long may it continue.

No George Foster had ginger hair, if we are allowed to say ginger these days.

Just my opinions lads.

Not the end of the world, a dip in form is guaranteed.

You also have to give the opposition ‘pressing high’ credit - our defenders have not been used to it all season so they were always going to struggle at first.

I don't think that any of them has fallen "massively ", except one game from Pearce. The other two have had a couple of shaky moments each in a couple of games, and for a defender at any level that's quite normal.

Preston has been pretty solid so why the problem. How anyone can really fault the three guys at the back is beyond me!!!

Totally

all 3 have been quality and are a major reason we are doing so well.

Can I ask what gives you that feeling? I see no evidence or reasoning why it would happen.

No problem, a few sources but as I said it’s only a feeling.
What kicked it off was this announcement that we’re not getting a centre back in as I think we need cover with 3 centre backs, but I felt we looked a little unbalanced last night and it changed towards the end when we went 442 with Grant and CJ on the wings, but I think we may even go to a 433 formation if we want to start Grant in the no.10 position with walker and ajose off. Again a feeling that I think we’ll want an extra centre mid in some games.
Ultimately it gives us options I just think it’s difficult to accommodate walker, Grant, ajose and CJ without playing at least one out of position and risk them not having the desired influence.

He was backbone of probably our greatest team. But not blessed for speed.

If you read the article it states that Mirfin has completed another 65 minutes in a reserve game and be can recall Gibbons from his loan with 24 hour notice now his 28 days is up.

Mirfin will be like a new signing.

My initial though was a RWB but I can see White and CJ battling that position out (or CJ and Mal for LWB mind you Jason Law did alright at LWB in the cup game)

There is still 2 weeks of the transfer window left, plenty of time for in(s) and out(s).

It won't be a number 10, we have Grant and Khan. Can't see it being a striker, we needed 1 and signed 1. Not be a keeper for the same reason.

The only position I can honestly see it being is a midfielder like Bishop. Although it feels like he might go for another 30 years Bish won't be around forever. Plus a backup if he gets suspended (I'm sure I read he was 2 yellows off a 2 game ban and by extension 7 yellows off a 3 game ban) I would wager it'll be a midfielder.

If you worry about pace at the back I give you our old pairing of Linighan and Richardson :o

My worry with Mirfin is will he be a few yards off the pace or even as good as before after such a lengthy spell out?

I remember a very good Jon D'Laryea unfortunately not being the same player after he returned from a knee(?) injury.

I think it would be a big mistake not bringing in another centre half. I don't think we will see the best of Mirfin this season.

David Mirfin looked good in the reserves against County but I can only see him playing in the middle of a back three (Krystian Pearces' position). I don't think he has the pace to play right or left centre back in a back three.

I'm sure I read that too, and before the Crawley game, so now he'll only be one card away from a two-game ban.

Neal Bishop is one booking away from a two game ban.

Said the other day that i think part of the reason some of our defenders have a loss of form is the lack of competition. Having Mirfin back, even just as a backup would be a positive for us.
