Cost of Mansfield Town promotion push so far revealed at AGM
chad.co.uk, by JOHN LOMAS, Thursday 15 November 2018

Mansfield Town’s promotion push, starting with the ‘Steve Evans Revolution’, over the past two years has inevitably come at a cost.

But club chairman John Radford and CEO Carolyn Radford were happy with the figures released at the club’s annual meeting today and, with crowds and income on the up, all pointed to a bright future for the Stags.

Having made a loss of £10,077 the year before, the club’s finances to June 30th 2017 even showed the promised profit from last year’s AGM - the first for many years - with a surplus of £6,403. However, the Radford ultimately want to bring the club in line with the rest of John Radford’s One Call group of companies, and eventually bring it within the group to give it more strength, so for the first time produced extra figures for the six months ended 31st December 2017.

They showed how wages, travel costs and agents fees had shot up under previous manager Evans when he was given his war chest to help the club chase promotion.

So by the turn of the year on 31st December 2017 that small profit had turned into a £132,785 loss.

Manager has a top three budget again says chairman as he reveals future plans for Mansfield Town at AGM
chad.co.uk, by JOHN LOMAS, Thursday 15 November 2018

Mansfield Town chairman John Radford said he has given his manager a top three budget for the third year in a row. Speaking at the club’s AGM today, Radford said he had dug deep in his pockets for previous boss Steve Evans and was now doing so for successor David Flitcroft.

“The last three years we’ve had a top three budget, so I expect a top three place, but we’re not there yet,” he said. “We want to take the club as far as we can take it and see where we go from there.

“We’d like to thank all our fans for coming through the door – the turnstiles are starting to turn a bit more.”

Excellent set of results and news for the club.

Was really expecting at losing well over a million under fatty but looks like it will stay around the £300k mark.

Hopefully both Bishop Street and hotel projects get sorted too.

Costs went from a small profit to a six figure loss under SE.

No surprises there then.

No supprise but the losses seem lower then most would have predicted. Positive stuff.

To have such a competitive budget and now not be losing money hand over fist confirms a huge step in the right direction.

If your having a pop at Evans, it's not his fault he asked for a budget and got it...

I think what we can take from that is that John & Carolyn are absolute visionaries when it comes to this town. They are phenomenal in all aspects, our club is unrecognisable from the one they purchased and they'll continue to grow our brand. We are the envy of almost every football league club and certainly most non-league clubs (inc our little neighbours across the M1). Long live the Radfords!

Also, what a job Adam Murray must have done to find the players he did and oversee the club make a profit. The constraints he worked under were during a transitional period and he still managed to find the likes of Rose & Bennett. Well done Muz.

Don't forget DF's been hindered by 2 crocks and a player he, nor anyone else, wants. 1of those injured has retired and Mirfin would be a fine option to keep on should he recover

I'm enjoying the amount of kids he's bringing through though. Bodes well.

Why can't it be concurrent?

If it can't, how long is the go between finishing one project and starting the next?

My guess is if he had stayed the debt would have got bigger.

Because his pocket isn't bottomless.

We also need to fill what space there is currently.

The Bishop Street development wouldn't raise cash it would be a cosmetic exercise until our numbers increased sufficiently.

I've mentioned this a few times but bishop Street done right COULD raise cash and also finish the ground off nicely.

Get a small stand the full length of the pitch an exact replica of the small stand at Luton with a few rows of seats and multiple boxes. You're then affectively extending the corporate area and opportunities with companies/rich buggers given the opportunity of having a box at the Stags with catering options etc.

Image

However saying that it will only bring back the cash if you can fill these boxes and will demand be there to fill 10ish executive boxes each home game? Paul Nyland will have the answer to that.

Plus it's John Radford's money and he can do whatever he wants with it!

Nice idea but is it viable for fourth tier football ?

Is a work in progress, like I said earlier hotel first (income generator). The Bish is not needed until crowds grow and and development prior to that would be costly and cosmetic. In addition the mighty Lutooon are thinking of relocating to new stadium at Dunstable.

My personal opinion would be do the Bishop St Stand, knock out the first few rows of the west stand, let it incorporate a nice technical area. Move the pitch towards the west stand, thus allowing a good sized stand that in my head looks a bit like Lutons, but with about 10 rows of seats and half a dozen boxes, with maybe a community room, or even relocated offices (which will probably have to move for the hotel). Lutons as it is for me looks a bit tin pot purely because of the lack of seating in front of the boxes.
