Brilliant! RE: we should be walking past sides like Grimsby... It's league two anyone can beat anyone. Massive credit to the lads who kept going depsite still missing chances, changes at HT worked well. Good win this. Playoffs and 3 off top brilloant!!!

Macclesfield can't.

I am pleased with the result, just expected it to be more comfortable and comprehensive.

This early season dropped points now looking to be quite significant. If just one of those draws was a win. Oh well can't change that.

Now for the FA cup.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

Made hard work of it. Great subs. 4 up top second half. Mellis awesome again. Walker. Some said lazy. I think he is now making more intelligent runs which make his workrate look alot better. CJ has to play wide left. If that means 4 at the back so be it.

Are you on a wind up? We bossed most of the game. Made countless chances (some of them excellent ones). We restricted them to a few wild efforts and a lucky og.

The early season dropped points could also now be looked at as good points gained.

We're in an excellent position now and if we can kick on anything can happen. The last few weeks have seen us turn a corner and our form has improved yet still you're not happy because it wasn't a thrashing. Unbelievable.

A fantastic 3 points in a game we could / should have put to bed after 5 minutes, but credit to the gaffer and players. The formation change with CJ on the left worked very well and we never gave up.

Well done flip flop.

Some right clowns on here again tonight . Some always have to look for a negative comment to make .
For a start , no one has a divine right to win a game . You have to earn it and sometimes have a bit of luck in the process. We have won both our games in hand . There is not one team in ant competiion we have played this season , including pre season friendlies who have been better than us . Grimsby were OK in patches but we absolutely dominated that from start to finish . 6 or 7 .1 would of been a fair result . Their keeper kept them in it . Mellis was excellent again . My motm.
Onwards and upwards .

Well said Jamie & tmwilson, couldn't agree more. We had 24 attempts tonight and some of the football was again a joy, especially the link play between Mellis and Bishop. Yes we wasted good chances, but it would be of much greater concern if we weren't creating any at all.

Well done DF it's all we asked for proactive. We looked more solid Saturday and tonight with 4 at the back and the full backs overlapping.

Mellis really drives the team forward and Tyler is suddenly in the right place at the right time, well done lad.

Only negative is Rose looks back to distinctly average.

I thought we were poor in the first half but still the game should have been done by half time. Second half much improved and three beautiful points.

If we didn’t win today it would have been one where you couldn’t blame DF - he can’t put the ball in the net for them.

Great result and it’s 6 points from our 2 games in hand, we can’t ask for anymore than that.

This team is starting to gain some momentum and us as fans need to go with that. Get behind them and come May we will be celebrating 100%!

Couldn’t make the game cos of work but was glued to all score bulletins . The negative half time remarks don’t help anyone, well done stags and DF and the staggies fans on radio could be heard singing. Onwards and upwards as a club....COYS.

Should have had five but two was enough for today.

Brave changes by Flitcroft to go with what was effectively 4-2-4. Was worried for 5 or 10 minutes because our midfield was getting walked through. There is no way we could go that gung-ho against any half decent team. Thankfully Grimsby were woeful and were lucky to get one due to some terrible defending by Pearce.

Davies doesn't look fit enough to start games in any case, he's really lazy and constantly gives stupid free-kicks away. He loves holding the ball up back to goal so much that he even does it when he's one on one with the keeper! I thought Elsnik was a bit unlucky to get subbed but did appear to be limping towards the end of the half.

Mellis was excellent and should be playing like that every week, but I guess that's why he's at this level. Fantastic cross for the first goal, as was CJ's for the second (even if it was his only decent cross on the 15th attempt).

Finally, credit to Tyler Walker for starting to fire. Give him enough service (yes he still missed a few, he's a L2 striker) and he will score goals. Pretty much 1 in 2 is great by anyone's standards.

Any clown who thinks we should just stroll past Grimsby doesn’t understand English lower league football unfortunately!!! But hey they live amongst us. Well done to DF for putting CJ on the left and Mellis and Walker are a class act at this level.

It worked today but I wouldn't be so sure that the second half formation is a long term solution. The intensity at the start of the second half was great but it was kamikaze football, with us frequently left one on one at the back, and gaping holes in midfield. A better team would have picked us to bits. But we weren't playing a better team, so today it was the correct call.

Fantastic win boys. Have to say although Walker isn't exactly a workhorse he always seems to know where the ball will land.

Picking up points and climbing the league without Macca or Khan . Don’t change a winning side and we have what a lot of supporters would assume were nailed on first team starters waiting for an opportunity.starting to look promising.

You can afford to not be a workhorse if you are scoring, but only if you are.

Thought Grimsby deserve more credit than some on here are giving them. I expected a big physical side but saw a small nippy outfit who had come to win and not just sit back.

Pringles was outstanding and I couldn't believe it when he was subbed before the winner. Their keeper also pulled off some excellent saves including getting down quickly to stop a Mellis shot first half and then a wonder save from the exceptional effort by Graham near the end.

We deserved the win in the end but made things hard for ourselves with some very wasteful misses early on. I think Rose needs to go back to the bench to get his head together as he's doing nothing at the moment. Graham showed more in his 10 - 15 minutes than Danny did all game. Surely he deserves a start to show what he can do.

Very pleased with the current state of play and expect us to keep climbing if we can just cement the consistency which is starting to emerge. I do think we need another defender and alternative striker came January as Davies clearly isn't fit and appears to be carrying an injury.

Grimsby literally have no threat, hence the current situation they are in. They are rubbish, but you can only beat what is in front of you, better finishing and it would have been embarrassing scoreline.

Also the Grimsby goal came from a Preston foul throw, I hope DF threatens to fine if any other professional footballer under contract at MTFC fails to throw a football correctly.

Grimsby were utter crap. They had one shot that luckily went in.

Rose missed a sitter but also set up a chance for Walker which he should have scored. He wasn't great but wasn't terrible either.
