A good 2-0 win played over three periods of 30 minutes.

Missed quite a number of excellent chances early on but McKeal Abbuldah scored twice, but in the last minute slipped and hurt his shoulder. Injury jinx started already.

Let’s hope he isn’t out long term. He has potential to play in the pizza cup games this season.

That injury must be down to how Nigel has them training.

To be fair the sheep were workmanlike but lacking a bit of imagination and pizzazz.
They were for the most part solid but in the third 1/3rd we put out pretty much our best 11 and we were too strong in the end. Good work for both sides.

Finished
Shirebrook 2 (2)v(1)4 Stags
Good game with Brook going 2-0 up despite Stags being marginally the better side first half.
Stags got back into the game just before HT with a truly wonderful strike from Abdullah.
2nd half Stags controlled the game well and scored quickly after the restart and Brook began to fade and found it tough to cope with the very fast paced stuff they were up against.
Two more well worked goals killed the game.

Tippy Tappy has posted a HT report on facebook with photos:

HT: Shirebrook Town 2 Mansfield Town 1
McKeal Abdullah and Jakub Kryszinski missed early chances for the Stags. Nat Watson gave Shirebrook the lead with a header from a corner and made it 2-0 shortly afterwards. McKeal Abdullah smashed in a left foot cracker into the top corner from 25/30 yards just before half time to make it 2-1.

Shirebrook Town 2 Mansfield Town U19s 4 (HT: 2-1)
McKeal Abdullah and Jakub Kruszynski missed early chances for the Stags. Nat Watson gave Shirebrook the lead with a header from a corner and made it 2-0 shortly afterwards with a shot from the edge of the area. McKeal Abdullah smashed in a left foot shot into the top corner from 25/30 yards just before half time to pull a goal back for the Stags.

Mansfield 1st Half Team

Keeper: ?
Taylor Anderson, Darragh Walsh, Darien Wauchope, Louis Bonser
Noah Aynsley-Johnson (Alfie King), Tyler Whyle, Finn Flanagan, Jakub Kruszynski
Bailey Hamilton, McKeal Abdullah

The young Stags were kicking downhill in the 2nd half and scored two quick goals to take the lead. Tyler Whyle scored at the far post before Alfie King made it 3-2 after his first shot was saved. Alfie has had a short back and sides so no longer looks like Charlie George/Richard Sneekes. He could have had a hat-trick in the 2nd half. McKeal Abdullah then scored a second goal to make it 4-2.

Mansfield 2nd Half Team

Keeper: ? (?)
Taylor Anderson, Cormac Maher, Darien Wauchope, Louis Bonser (Lewis Warnaby)
Alfie King, Tyler Whyle, Finn Flanagan, Jakub Kruszynski
Ronnie Kokkinos, McKeal Abdullah (Whitman)

There were a couple of other late subs

I thought the young lads were excellent last night and well worth the victory, they didn't deserve to go behind, nevermind 2 goals down

Abdullah had a very good game and I though Taylor Anderson was excellent....Louis Bonser had a torrid time though against a very fast tricky Shirebrook winger in the first half especially.

There was a few robust tackles flying in towards the end......Well Done MTFC for matching Shirebrook's physicality at times..
I would like to see this 'Friendly' repeated each year.

The NCEL is a very competitive league these days and maybe a loan or two could be arranged between the clubs, that can only help some of the young lads.

A crowd of well over 300 too.....which was good to see.

A few years ago this PSF game produced a 6-0 Shirebrook win.

Not sure if Shirebrook are not as good as a few years ago or is it that our lads are a lot better.
