It’s off to the seaside for Episode Five of ‘A Trip Down Memory Lane’ as Craig, Simon, Nathan and Cam head off to see a commanding defender turned heroic leader in Stuart Watkiss who, back in 2002, helped the Stags over the line to their first promotion in a decade.
Stuart, dubbed ‘Skip’, worked his way through the heart of the Stags back-line before turning to coaching – taking up a role in the Stags youth-team overing seeing the development of the “Amber Generation” of Liam Lawrence, Craig Disley, Lee Williamson, Bobby Hassell etc – before moving up to assistant boss, and eventually manager.
Skip recalls his journey from playing into management and passionately remembers his time at Field Mill, with stories from on and off the pitch – including encounters with a ‘Dodgy’ future assistant manager and a rather rude awakening into coaching – proof that romance is far from dead in Mansfield.
Also this week, Skip recalls his greatest achievement as Stags boss in delivering promotion and takes on former team-mates and players in the ‘It’s All About You Quiz’.
This Episode was filmed at the Oasis Health Club in Cleethorpes on Sunday 3rd June
