A very good second half performance and deserved to win the penalty shoot out.
Mansfield Town, my club even though been exiled in London since 1983.

Not necessarily. If Man City win at Grimsby and lose to Derby, we go through in second place.

I think that’s correct anyway

Or if Man City win both it’s the same scenario.

Actually maybe not. The table that shows up on google is a mess and not correct https://www.efl.com/papa-johns-trophy/t ... on/tables/ Group F. Current table:

POS.-------------------P W D L GD Pts
1 Derby County---2 1 1 0 2 4
2 Mansfield Town 3 1 1 1 -1 4
3 Grimsby Town---2 1 0 1 0 3
4 Man City U21----1 0 0 1 -1 0

Man City need to Lose to Derby and beat Grimsby.

Or Man city beat Derby by 4 or more goals (to put derby below us on goal difference) and we would go through no matter what. I think any other result against Derby puts us out.

I don’t think that table is right is it? Don’t we have five points instead of four?

That table is wrong.

We are top of the league with 5 points. Derby on 4. Grimsby on 3. City on 0.

A few different results could see us through. It's a bit confusing because of the extra point available from the penalty shootouts but 5 points might see us through. I'd say it's 50/50.

Yes. We get an extra point for the shoot out win.

Yeah you're right.

Google reckons we've got 6 points and won 2 and lost 1,

I never thought to question the official website of the competition .

This competition is a joke.

John Radford will.

I'm not overly fussed about the competition. I haven't been to a game since they brought the Premier League sides in but there's some good money to be earnt through prize money.

That’s the problem though.

Good to get minutes in to Boateng and have a decent team performance!

50/50 whether we go through but not too fussed either way. We risk injury every time we play these games and players like Macca rarely get a rest so if we’re out so be it, if we’re through fine.

On to a big game Saturday

I agree. I used to like the competition back in the day but it's become a bit of a joke. If they got rid of the premier league youth teams I'd start going again.

Id prefer to see conference clubs replacing the PL lot.

I didn't go, but watched online. That was a great performance from the Stags.

Boateng, Law, Clarke, Lapslie, Maris, Quinn, Hartigan, our midfield is nuts for League 2.

A shame for Law to miss his penalty, im sure that won't knock his confidence. Flinders had little to do, but made an important save in the 2nd half to stop them sneaking ahead. Boateng was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch though, oozes class.

Good performance overall and a decent match, well worth a tenner and with a proper attendance, 3600 is very good for this comp, 2k home fans. Thought Boateng played very well and whilst it wasn't his night in front of goal Swan looked a threat. Law showed some good touches but I remain concerned about his strength and pace at this level. Injuries for Wallace and O'Toole (though JJs was just a cut). The game also reminded me I prefer lower to upper tier, but it was nice to see Martin and Darren (who decided to attend for a change ;) )

This is the scenario to qualify.

Derby vs Man City kids is played a week on Tuesday.

A Man City win in 90 mins and we are through.
A Man City win on penalties means we need Man City to beat Grimsby on penalties only.
A Derby win in 90 minutes means we need Man City to beat Grimsby either on penalties or in 90 mins.

I thought the last group games had to be played at the same time !!! This rule has been implemented for decades to prevent any collusion between teams like West Germany v Austria in 1982. Anybody any ideas why this rule has been abandoned ?

Man City kids on international duty.

This is from the Grimsby website

Our Papa John’s Trophy game against Manchester City U21s has been rescheduled to Tuesday 8th November, (19:30 kick-off).

Manchester City Under 21s have had a significant number of International call-ups over the last week, which resulted in the recent postponement of their Papa John’s Trophy fixture vs. Derby County.

As a result, in order for the Cityzens to fulfil their Papa John’s Trophy Group Stage fixtures, they will now travel to Derby County on Tuesday 18th October, which has led to our fixture having to be moved to accommodate this.

This means that our rearranged League fixture vs. Crewe Alexandra scheduled for the same date will now be moved to an alternative date which we will announce in due course. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

So it looks like Wallace was the concussion sub following Nigel’s interview.

Mansfield's first penalty shoot out win since 13th November 2012 when we beat Slough Town 4-1 on penalties. Penalties scored by Chris Clements, Louis Briscoe, Matt Rhead and Jake the Snake.

It brings to an end a six game losing streak in penalty shoot outs for the Stags.

6th December 2017: Lost 5-4 on penalties to Blackpool in 2nd Rd of EFL Trophy
12th May 2019: Lost 5-3 on penalties to Newport County in League 2 Play Off Semi-Final
13th August 2019: Lost 6-5 on penalties to Morecambe in League Cup 1st Rd
27th August 2019: Lost 4-1 on penalties to Everton in 1st Rd (Group Stage) of EFL Trophy
8th October 2019: Lost 4-3 on penalties to Crewe Alexandra in 1st Rd (Group Stage) of EFL Trophy
3rd December 2019: Lost 4-2 on penalties to Port Vale in 2nd Rd of EFL Trophy
