They have signed four free transferred , the only cash will be Telford wages .I would think

Oates is class but severely isolated, Bowery has improved dramatically but is hardly prolific, and Akins has the first touch of a trampoline but tries his best.

I think Crawley will be a dark horse because they won't be finished with their recruitment yet.

Don’t think I have seen a summer where there has been a total lack of genuine rumours/speculation, goes to show how close the cloughs keep their cards to their chest.

It’s also the first time in a while where our squad doesn’t need “surgery” in the summer and just a few fine additions.

It’s difficult to improve a team that got so close. If Boateng is the standard of signings we are after it was always going to take time to complete the squad.

I know what you mean, but not really. 75% of the football league teams are better than us so quite a lot of scope for improvement.

Yeah, but the majority of those players in those teams in the 75% want to go to a bigger and better club. Mansfield has a lot of potential but that's it. We are competing with clubs with more wealth, more history, more fans and stadiums with 4 stands.

Yeah but the improvement requires competing with L1 teams for players like Boateng, or the likes of Stockport, Salford, Bradford etc.

At the moment u don’t see much of an additional boost to what we had last season and it was proved we didn’t quite have the quality required so not sure at the moment how we will fair and autos is a must this time around

We came 7th.

So we need to improve. Status quo gets us to 7th again. We need 3 quality players IMO.

We need three that will likely fit straight in the 11 yeah, a goalie, centre back and striker.

Completely agree. And the two outfield players to have a bit of pace.

Waiting is so tiring.

I sincerely hope we are getting quality and that the wait isn't indicative of failure to land it.

Not necessarily. Depends if the league is stronger/weaker. Depends if we can keep our squad fit/unsuspended this time around. Depends if our players improve or regress.

Not sure status quo gets you 7th again… Clough seems to think it, loads of fans same but it won’t work like that, the ‘existing’ team is now minus some key names and they’re all a little bit older especially Quinn who was best player and made Macca much better.
We’ve signed Boetang good signing but in reality doesn’t strengthen the 11 as we don’t need midfielders… critical we sign a proper CB a winger and a striker… anyone really think we’ll not go on a bad run at some point coupled with going on another record breaking running streak? Won’t happen without strengthening

Don’t come on here talking sense , I doubt many on this board have actually played the game to some standard . The mind boggles if Wembley gave us anything then that was this side a season older ain’t good enough to slow no pace no plan B other than stick Hawkins up top . Genius Clough ?? Let’s be honest if we played another 10mins against Forest Green there was only one winner and Wembley wouldn’t have happened ….

‘If you’re standing still you’re going backwards’. We need these signings coming in to be of a standard high enough to improve the starting 11 from the off and not just be decent squad players.
For me we have plenty of good squad players, we just need to add that extra bit of real quality bringing in to key areas to tip us over the line. Let’s hope they are just that.

I think most know the game was a shambles for the last 10mins with only one winner under normal circumstances.

We need a defender who can mark the back post, how many times did teams play that ball last season?

A midfielder who can run at players and put them on the back foot.

A forward who can finish well and take the pressure of Oates.

A goalkeeper who can do his job week in week out.

Finally we need a team that goes back to playing the high pressure game that brought us so much success last year before the likes of Murphy joined us

Good point. Even 7th isn't guaranteed.

Lots of room to improve...

But apparently were as good as we can be according to some on here.

Nevermind that Luton showed us that you can from L2 to championship playoffs within 4 seasons.
You've got to go there and come back, to know where you've been.

A few things I would say to that.

You’re not considering the prospect of the younger/prime players in the squad improving, just the ageing players getting worse.

You say we need a winger and a striker. One of those wouldn’t play every week in the current systems we used so one is unlikely to be of star quality.

And finally, we wouldn’t need to go on a record breaking run, the wins could be spread out evenly throughout the season. It’s also equally, if not more unlikely that we’ll go 12 games without a win.
