They are playing very well winning everything but the game at the moment.

Did you not go when Coxy's Boys beat Stockport in 2011 and 2013 at Edgeley Park?

The Cup always has and always will produce these magic moments. It means something to lower league clubs, and at times is a lifeline to survival or better things.
Sadly the Premier League clubs (not the players themselves) look upon it as a chore and irritant.

It’s not that great a ground. Better than a lot in L2

But it’s also in Stockport, remember

My memories of Stockport away are slightly vague, it always amazes me how some can recollect games with great detail.
I'm sure it was our first away game of the season whatever year it was, we went on train and had to divert because of works on track, remember walking to ground through some tower blocks and having a drink there,it was very rough.
Think Palmer came on as a sub and played well, I don't remember the result but sure we were losing.
Oh and out of date cider on the train to which the barman replied very quickly that's why it's called Old English.

I can't remember that game at all, not a single second.

That was a very entertaining game. I thought the referee, Samuel Barrott, had a great game. He did not fall for Bolton’s usual diving and cheating and let the game flow.
Reminded me of my first visit to Stockport in the early eighties for a Friday night game. Only thing I remember were that Micky Quinn was playing for Stockport, and the fish and chips on way home in Cheaterfield.

We also had a great win there on Easter Monday 1986, 2-0, possibly Keith Cassells and Neville Chamberlain scored on our way to promotion.

Few memories there. Standing on the terrace behind the goal on a Friday night when we won 1-0, I think Greg Fee scored the winner. Then the crazy 6-3 cup match which I was taking pics at. I’d run out of film(!) so was just changing it when Christie scored again so I missed it and this Stockport fan said to me “your boss is going to kill you for missing that goal” but it didn’t matter in the end anyway.

3 goals we've scored at Stockport:

John Doolan scores in the 6-3 defeat in 1997

Junior Daniel free kick from 3-1 win in 2013

Ian Stringfellow in 1993

My first visit to Stockport was a Friday night in 1967 and happened to be Sandy Pate’s debut.

We lost 1-0 and had to return in the supporters coach with all its windows smashed in. It was a bit drafty travelling over the tops on the way back to Mansfield.

I was at a Regimental Dinner in Blandford when we won 1-0 there. I kept getting the waitresses to go out and check Teletext

Ah teletext, some great memories watching that flicking through the scores! Looks like my memory is fading as it looks like it was Stringy who scored not Greg Fee. No idea where that came from.

FT Grimsby 1-0 Southend

Absolutely terrible game. Very low quality from both sides.

If we win today playing in a similar vein then that's ok by me. It's not gonna be pretty today.

I can't believe they bricked the coach and smashed the windows at Stockport in 1967. The same happened to me at my first away game at Preston ten years later in January 1977.

FT: Col U 1 Newport County 1 (HT: 0-1)
Dom Telford gave Newport the lead in the 1st half curling a shot into the corner of the net from outside the box. He then hit the post with another shot from distance in the 2nd half. Courtney Baker Richardson also had chances to score. He should have squared one to Telford for a tap in. Col U equalised with their only shot on target. Alan Judge played a great ball over the top to Freddie Sears. Joe Day had a rush of blood and came rushing off his line and Freddie Sears chipped the ball over him into the empty net.

That Telford has scored 11 goals in 7 games now. Oh how we miss having a goal scorer in our team.
