You mention poor performances from several players but not Lapslie who was truly awful and probably the most disappointing of anyone. That clean break at 1-0 where all he had to do was play a 5 yard pass to his left capped a truly terrible display. Our midfield as a whole has been woeful.

We were slating Laps for that too Rob but we sort of forgave him as he probably saw it was Bowery free in the space

Lapslie at least tried to make things happen. He made four runs forwards, once he was brought down and didn't get a free kick when he should have done in the first half, once when he pushed forward after winning the ball well but made the wrong choice as he should have played the ball to his left with two players unmarked but instead played it to Johnson on his right who was heavily marked, once when he was brought down after a good burst of speed and then Ward wasted the free kick, and finally when he was wrestled down and the Stags were awarded a penalty before the referee changed his mind. He was the least disappointing of the midfield in my opinion as the others contributed nothing.

I thought George Lapslie was our best midfield player in the 1st half and I would have kept him central with Ward behind him and pushed Ollie Clarke out to the right who was not having a good game.

Keaton Ward was disappointing in the 2nd half. He only had a 47% pass success rate (7 out of 15) but 2 of those 7 passes were classed as key passes.

Ollie Clarke is a player that ironically is more suited to League 1. Seems to want more time on the ball than he is afforded in this league and then rushes the pass as he is closed down. I agree Lapslie was the best midfield player yesterday although its hardly an accolade.

Agree with Martin and Tippy Tappy re Lapslie. In a woeful team performance, he was the only player who looked like he could make something happen on the attacking front.

update to the report :

The Stags were awarded a penalty after 87 minutes but the referee then changed his mind after consulting his linesman. A long kick forward from Bishop was flicked on by Hawkins. George Lapslie ran on to it and got goalside of Koiki who wrestled him down. The foul started outside the box, but Koiki still had his arm on Lapslie inside the box before Lapslie went down. The referee, who was well-positioned, correctly pointed to the spot. As Hawkins put the ball on the spot ready to take the penalty, the referee belatedly went over to consult his assistant and then changed his decision, instead giving a free kick just outside the area. The referee incredibly also failed to book Koiki. Koiki, incidentally, should have been booked earlier too (*). Sub Keaton Ward took the resulting free kick and sent it over the bar.

(* Koiki should have been booked first after 68 minutes when he brought Lapslie down with a trip from behind 35 yards from goal. It should have been a clear yellow card. Lapslie took the free kick quickly before the referee could produce his yellow card, the referee allowed the kick to be taken, Keaton Ward played the ball forward but out for a goal kick, and the referee did not then go back and book Koiki. Nigel Clough said afterwards that the fourth official told him that the referee could not produce the yellow card after he’d allowed the free kick to be taken quickly! Extraordinary.)

What annoys me is on paper our fire power looks goals, Hawkins tall good with his feet misses a sitter with his head, Johnson fox in the box plays off the last man a natural goal scorer
also misses a golden chance, Oates pacey shoots with both feet another natural goal scorer, Bowery tall got pace good skill on the ball, Sinclair good at throw ins and dead ball delivery
so why are we so poor at scoring, and Clarke get a loose ball coming to him at the edge of the box, no not in the bottom corner, misses the goal completely.
In the summer having total faith in us scoring goals for fun, they are powder puff and get closed down far to easy
