Few of my mates were trying to defend him saying it ‘happens all the time’ which is a lame excuse, swearing obviously does but not ‘giving the bird’

To be given a straight red he’s clearly directed it towards the offical, it’s a really bad heat of the moment mistake from him and clearly the correct decision.

If that's the case, do we have any grounds for an appeal?

No, it's a stonewall red card, cassells is wrong.

clearly no grounds for appeal as Rob says. Walker knew he'd been stupid straight away and put his shirt over his head knowing there was only going to be one outcome well before the red card came out.

Not condoning his actions but it seems harsh that an act of petulance that has hurt the assistants feelings is deemed more serious than an act of petulance that breaks a players leg.

Like I said I don’t condone it but feel more red cards should be dished out then.

Problem you have is with verbal you can claim you were talking to yourself because you are annoyed. He directed the middle finger straight at the lino. kinda removes all doubt.

A player can go up to another player and say "I'll knock your head off if you come near me again" and get no punishment because he can claim he was mis-heard. If said player, instead, just walks up to a player and plants one on the end of the nose. It's kinda obvious.

Kids in the stands can't hear verbals... They can see hand guestures. Both are wrong but what he did was stupid and deserves the ban. They can't give the impression to anyone that it's ok to do that stuff to an official so have to make an example from time to time.

You could see he knew he was going as soon as he flagged and must feel like crap tonight. Hopefully he comes back hungry to make up for a few missed games and fires us over the line.

It's a tough one, since I realised I wasn't good enough to play for the Stags I became a ref and been doing it for just about 25 years, now back at Level 5 but also observe Level 3 & 4's. I like to think I ref as a player so am very lenient with dissent and have, compared to many refs, a very high tolerance level. However, there is still a line, that line is this sort of thing. I've done 30 games so far this season, had just one red card, for this sort of offence (it was a verbal telling me to something off). I get football fans don't like refs, it is pathetic, but I'm also a fan so I get it - all I'd say is just watch a game without a ref and you will very quickly appreciate the neutral, even if he/she is wrong sometimes. This weekend thousands of games were not covered by a neutral ref, treat them like you do, they won't bother and so you have bias Dad instead, Today you saw a very good team of officials, if I were observing him he'd have received a very high mark.

He deserved the red card for it. He should be fined by the club. It was a "free for kids" game and he does that. I'm sure forest would agree with our decision.

Credit where its due, the ref was of a significantly higher standard than what we've had in recent weeks.

Yes, it does seem harsh but rules are rules and he was stupid.

Hopefully, he will learn from it and I hope we do not suffer because of it.

It's in the laws so yes a red was correct but how many times has it been applied? Not many.

What are your thoughts on the penalty appeal after Pearce was dragged to the ground during a corner kick (2:38 on the extended highlights)? Ref was on the edge of the area and the assistant on that side had an unimpeded view.

The problem is, if you start giving those then there will be 20 penalties a game. However, I do think that VAR will see them given more often at the highest level which may then filter down in terms of what referee's are looking for. On this one, Pearce was fouled, but FGR could argue we fouled them from each of their corners.

This was blatant and yet another penalty not given. FGR looked like they fouled us on each of our corners and free kicks too

There’s having a go generally (if that was a red then games would finish 5 a side) then there’s making an overt and direct offensive gesture...
