Barnsley, Portsmouth, Derby County, Oxford United and Cardiff City are all interested in signing Rueben Rodrigues from Notts County according to Pete O'Rourke.

Good job 99% of those teams aren’t in the championship then.

Listening to County fans you would think that they are already in the championship

Yes, sounds like a spell in non league has taught them zero humility.

Spanking part-timers in the National League, week in week out, gives folk an odd feeling of superiority. Then you find out that the difference between League two and the bottom sixteen clubs in the National League is huge.

I’m not sure it is. Not many National League clubs struggle in their first season back. They will do well next season with some smart recruitment.

I didn't suggest that they'd struggle at all Muso. I expect them to be top 8.

What I'm saying is that neither Notts nor Wrexham will romp away to automatic promotion like they did last season. They may get promoted again, however, there's games at National level where you only really need to turn up to get the points. That doesn't happen in League 2.

I read a lot of nonsense about there being little between the divisions (usually from people associated with the National League). From what I've seen it's still the same massive chasm from 6-7 teams down (in the National League) that it's always been.

No I didn’t say you did, but I don’t think the difference between L2 and National League is that big. Clubs relegated from L2 don’t tend to do to well either in their first season in the National League.

The difference with Wrexham and Notts are that they are both traditionally Football League clubs, with good fan bases and big budgets. I see both being top 7 minimum.

I mean, apart from being relegated from the premier league, hardly any relegated team does well straight away in any league. They’re usually relegated for a very good reason. Scunthorpe and Rochdale being the most recent examples of clubs that have been relegated because they’ve been mismanaged.

You have to realise that the clubs that get relegated and subsequently struggle are EFL clubs on their backside though. That's how it's always been and largely why they've ended up there - ourselves included; we were an absolute dog with fleas crawling across concrete with it's guts hanging out.
I'm convinced that the bottom half are still no better than they were 15 years ago and nobody would change my mind on that.

Btw, I see Wrexham have signed a big shirt sponsorship with United Airlines. If they aren't in the Championship within 4-5 years with their financial backing then I'm a nuns swinging nuts.

L1 - last seasons relegated teams from the Champ all finished in the top 7. The season before that, all finished in the top 6 with 1 being promoted. The season before that 2 finished in the top 7, one promoted.

L2 - last seasons relegated teams from L1 did very poorly. The season before 3 of 4 finished in the top 6 with 1 promoted. The season before that 2 of 3 finished in the top 7 with 1 promoted.

So it’s not true if all leagues but it is usually true of the National League for the reasons he points out.

County will be one of the best pure footballing teams in the division next season, and if they can pair Langstaff with McGoldrick up front… a top 3 finish for them will be very attainable.

League Two will be a good division next season. Better than in previous years. Can’t wait!

Omari Patrick and Morgan Feeney have seemingly missed their opportunity to agree new deal with Carlisle. Paul Simpson set a deadline of Wednesday just gone to agree terms, Patrick did not respond and Feeney has had interest from elsewhere and wants to see what comes of that, so those offers have been withdrawn.

Strict stuff from Simpson.

Yep definitely will be interesting! Myself included, I’ve seen a lot of people, fans of league two clubs etc say that they’ve never known a season where they could see so many different teams potentially go up.

Probably poor advice from agents. Not responding is not great really - just say I don’t want to sign.

Wonder if they have the same agent?

Seriously impressive signing if it is.

Do wish we’d replenish our forward line with a new face, even though I know it’s essentially been ruled out.
