How To: Place a link in a Forum Post

Postby thon » Mon May 25, 2015 9:09 pm

You can place a Link to another website or page directly into a forum post, like this:

Simple links
  1. Copy the address (URL) of the web page (highlight & CRTL+C in your web browser's address bar)
    Image
  2. Ensure your link contains either the 'www.' or 'http://' prefix (if not, add the prefix 'http://' to it, without spaces)
    Image
  3. Paste the copied URL into your post (right-click + 'paste', or CTRL+V on your keyboard)
    Image

Then submit your post.

Your URL will automatically be converted into a link, like this:

http://www.chad.co.uk/sport/mansfield-t ... -1-7277210

If it is a long link, it will be shrunk like the one above - but it will still work.

Friendly links
You can post a friendlier-looking link in a forum post by using the 'URL' BBCode, as follows:

  1. Copy the address (URL) of the web page (highlight & CRTL+C in your web browser's address bar)
    Image
  2. Ensure your link contains either the 'www.' or 'http://' prefix (if not, add the prefix 'http://' to it, without spaces)
    Image
  3. Click the 'URL' button in the forum post-editor window
    Image
  4. Add an '=' sign inside the opening URL 'tag'
    Image
  5. Paste the copied URL after the '=' sign in the opening URL 'tag' (right-click + 'paste', or CTRL+V on your keyboard)
    Image
  6. Type a friendly name for the link between the URL tags
    Image

Then submit your post

You have then posted a human-readable link, like this:
