Joe Dunne appointed Assistant Manager

The 47 year old Irishman has had an extensive career in management having managed almost 150 games for Colchester and Cambridge United. In 2019 he was appointed assistant manager to Graham Coughlan at Bristol Rovers and the pair enjoyed a successful spell before Mansfield negotiated a deal to take him to the One Call Stadium as assistant manager to Coughlan. Dunne was let go in October this year after Mansfield parted company with Coughlan. Chairman Phil Wallace said, "We have not had the start we wanted in the league, but we have improved significantly, with just one defeat over 90 minutes in the last six games. We have the basis of a good side and that is starting to show in our performances now. Alex has worked hard to get us to this position, but the more experience we can bring to our management team, the better. Alex has chosen to bring Joe on board to help him and we are hopeful his experience, passion and energy will be a big asset moving forwards." Mark Sampson will remain as First Team Coach, but the mentoring role of Lennie Lawrence will come to an end. Phil Wallace said, "It was a privilege and pleasure to have Lennie with us as a mentor to Alex for the opening few months of the season. His experience has been very helpful, but the Club need a manager and assistant manager on a daily basis. Chairman Phil Wallace said, "I spoke to Joe yesterday and it came as a shock to all of us, but Joe has been informed of an illness in his family that requires all of his attention. He is devastated to bring us this news, but we completely understand that family comes first and, given the situation he’s found himself in, we understand his decision and hope that his family issues are resolved as soon as possible." -------------------- |
