EOIN DOYLE has become Bolton Wanderers’ Head Coach Ian Evatt’s first brand new signing of the summer after penning a three-year deal at the University of Bolton Stadium.

The prolific marksman, 32, arrives in Bolton following a spell with Swindon Town last season where he netted an astonishing 25 goals in 28 games, a tally which helped propel The Robins to the Sky Bet League Two title.

Wanderers fought off fierce competition from clubs higher up the football pyramid to land the Dubliner, whose previous clubs include Bradford City, Oldham Athletic, Portsmouth, Preston North End, Cardiff City, Chesterfield and Hibernian.

Speaking to bwfc.co.uk, Doyle, who was last season’s top scorer in League Two, said: “I got a call off the gaffer when he got the job and I’m delighted to be here.

“I played alongside him and I know him well. I kept an eye on what he did at Barrow and they far exceeded expectations, so I’m very excited to be working for him.

“The style his teams play is good for me personally and I cannot wait to get going.”

Clearly pleased to get his man, Evatt told bwfc.co.uk: “I am over the moon that we have been able to sign Eoin and fight off competition from other clubs.

“Eoin is a statement of intent by the club and is a player I know very well.

“He has many qualities both as a player and as a person, and we are looking forward to getting started.”

Eoin Doyle: Swindon Town striker set to join Bolton Wanderers
Wed 8 July 2020

League Two top scorer Eoin Doyle is set to stay at fourth-tier level next season by leaving Swindon Town to sign for relegated Bolton Wanderers.

Doyle, whose 25 goals helped Swindon become League Two champions, had been offered a new contract by the Robins.

But boss Richie Wellens says the 32-year-old will instead join Bolton.

"The money Bolton are throwing around for a player of his age, and a three-year deal at that, we couldn't get to that," he told BBC Radio Wiltshire.

"I believe Doyley's had a medical at Bolton, In fact, I'm surprised they've not released it yet.

"We're moving up a level and it looks like a parting of the ways. And we wish him well. He's been fantastic for this club. He's done great for us, just as we've done great for him. He suited the way we played.

"But, when you get to Eoin's age and a three-year deal is put in your lap, it's very hard to turn down. The last time he played in League One, he got relegated."

I'm told Eoin Doyle is likely to pen a deal with Swindon. Don't think Mansfield's interest was reciprocated.

(Mansfield) Took the two forwards. Doyle may have missed that boat now.

(Mansfield) Wanted an answer at weekend. Signed couple of others. So that’s not too likely now.

Just two bits from me today. Mansfield are still interested in Doyle despite the Bowery signing, but I'm told they're behind the obvious choice of destination.

Swindon Town remain favourites to sign proven goal scorer despite Mansfield interest

Swindon Town remain the front runners to keep Eoin Doyle at the club this summer despite interest from Mansfield Town.

Doyle helped the Robins win the League Two title this season after the EFL’s decision to rank teams by points per game following the postponement of the campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Irish striker, who had enjoyed prolific spells at Chesterfield and Oldham, was loaned to Richie Wellens side last summer following a difficult spell with Bradford City in League One during the 2018/19 season.

He was so good, scoring more than 20 goals before New Year, that Bradford recalled him in January only to persist in using him as a target man. Doyle did eventually return to Swindon, finishing the campaign with 25 goals in 36 appearances at the County Ground.

He signed a short-term deal in January that will expire at the end of this month which has alerted the interest of League Two Mansfield. However, according to James Goodwin, Swindon remain the favourites to land the 32-year-old.

Swindon Town: Eoin Doyle offered new deal by League Two champions
Tues 23 June 2020

League Two champions Swindon Town have offered a new deal to out-of-contract striker Eoin Doyle.

Doyle, 32, was instrumental in helping secure automatic promotion season, scoring 25 goals in 34 appearances.

He made his move from Bradford City permanent in January on a deal until the end of the season after a prolific loan spell.

Doyle is understood to be interesting other clubs as Swindon try to finalise his squad for next season.

“There’s a big part of our team that are out of contract but that we also need to improve on,” manager Richie Wellens told BBC Radio Wiltshire.

“We simply can’t do anything until a decision is made on a salary cap whether that’s re-sign players on new contracts or sign new players.

“We have to learn to be patient but when we do make decisions on players, we have to make sure they’re the right ones.”
