Stags land new signing
mansfieldtown.net, Thur 25 July 2019 We are delighted to announce the signing of versatile right-sided player Kellan Gordon from Championship side Derby County on a two-year deal. Gordon signed his first professional contract with the Rams in October 2015, going on to feature in all but one of Derby’s 2016-17 Premier League 2 Division 1 fixtures the following season. During that campaign, the 21-year-old scored a superb goal in a 5-3 victory over Manchester United and the winner against Chelsea on the final day of the season. The tricky wide-man spent the 2017-18 campaign on loan with Sky Bet League Two outfit Swindon Town, making 32 appearances and scoring on four occasions. Gordon went on to spend a portion of last season on loan at Sky Bet League Two champions Lincoln City, scoring twice in ten outings for the Imps. One of these strikes came against the Stags in November 2018, a game that ended one-goal apiece following Jacob Mellis’ equaliser deep into stoppage time. https://www.mansfieldtown.net/news/2019/july/stags-land-new-signing/ Manager John Dempster said: “Kellan is a versatile right-sided player who can play at right-back, right wing-back or right wing. “He will give us flexibility down that side, along with competition and cover. I’m really looking forward to working with Kellan. “Lee Glover [assistant manager] has already worked with him at Derby County in his early years and gave him a glowing reference as both a player and a person, which is important. “He’ll be an asset for the football club, because he is still in his early-20s and there is a lot of development left in him, although he is already a good player. “He’s a physical specimen, considering he is in his early-20s. He is a fit lad and he will get up and down that right-side. He’s got good quality and has a good right foot.” ----------------------- |
