Stags sign Jorge Grant on loan
mansfieldtown.net, Monday 14 January 2019

We are delighted to announce the loan signing of Nottingham Forest’s creative attacking midfielder Jorge Grant until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old recently returned from his loan spell at Sky Bet League One high-flyers Luton Town, having made 22 appearances for the Hatters this term, netting four times.

Grant is a graduate of the Nottingham Forest academy, and has made 17 Championship appearances for the Reds in his career.

He spent last season on loan at Notts County, scoring 19 times in 56 appearances in all competitions. Following an impressive campaign with the Magpies in 2017-18, Grant made the PFA League Two Team of the Year.

Stags’ boss David Flitcroft said: “When you look at the work we’ve done this season and dominated teams, along with our style of play and strategy, it is imperative that we get quality in during this transfer window.

“Jorge represents real quality in the final third and we’re talking about somebody who is clinical and productive in that top part of the pitch with assists and goals.

“The relationship he has with Tyler [Walker, on loan from Nottingham Forest] was an important factor in his signing and their link up on the pitch will be so important in moving forward.

“Our owners and Greg [Abbott, head of football operations] have worked tirelessly on delivering this signing.

“I would like to thank the chairman and Carolyn for supporting me in delivering these two top players [Grant and Nicky Ajose] that I am sure will be a success and our supporters will love to watch.”

Grant eager to play alongside ‘best friend’ Walker
mansfieldtown.net, Monday 14 January 2019

Creative attacking midfielder Jorge Grant says he ‘can’t wait’ to be playing alongside ‘best friend’ Tyler Walker, adding that the pair linked up well in their first training session as Mansfield Town players.

We revealed earlier today that the 24-year-old has joined Mansfield from Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the season.

Grant says that the move came after speaking to manager David Flitcroft ‘a lot’ over the past seven days, and looks forward to reuniting Walker, who is also with the amber and blue on loan from the Reds.

“I spoke to the manager a lot over the past week and I think I can fit in really well here,” explained Grant.

“It’s exciting. I’m really happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started. Promotion is the main target, because I’m here as a Mansfield player.

“It [season with Luton Town] started off really well, I scored a few goals and was starting most weeks. I got a niggle in my groin and had some time out, and the lad that came in [for me] did really well.

“One of the things that the gaffer said to me was ‘come and get a promotion on your CV.’ Tyler [Walker] is here as well, who I know really well.

“[Walker played a] massive [part] to be fair. We spend a lot of time together off the pitch. I’ve known him since he was 16 or 17, so he’s one of my best friends in football. I can’t wait to be playing with him.

“We’ve grown up learning the way of football from Forest. He’s a striker, I’m a number ten, so we always played off each other and linked up really well.

“It happened in training a few times as well so hopefully we can bring that into the game tomorrow.”

The midfielder, who trained with the Stags for the first time today, says that the Mansfield players look ‘sharp’ heading into tomorrow night’s Sky Bet League Two clash at home to Crawley Town.

Grant, along with new striker Nicky Ajose, is eligible to feature in the match.

“You have to come in and do your part for the team,” he added. “When you have the positivity that I saw today in training, even though the lads lost at the weekend, everyone was out there enjoying themselves.

“Training wasn’t too heavy today as we have the game tomorrow. There were lots of little technical things and the lads looked really sharp to be honest.

“I like to get in the pockets between the midfield and the defence. I like to play through balls, put in crosses and get goals and assists.

“I like to take free-kicks and corners too, so hopefully I can bring that all to the table.

“I want to say a big thank you to the chairman, the gaffer, the coaching staff and the players for welcoming me here today. Hopefully we can enjoy the next few months together.”

Mansfield Town coup as hit Forest prospect Jorge Grant signs on loan
chad.co.uk, by JOHN LOMAS, Monday 14 January 2019

Championship neighbours Nottingham Forest gave Mansfield Town’s promotion bid a further huge boost this afternoon by allowing them to take free-scoring midfield ace Jorge Grant on loan until the end of the season.

It was also one in the eye for desperate League Two neighbours Notts County where Grant scored 19 times on loan last season and who had asked about regaining his services after hearing the Reds were recalling him from his loan at Luton Town.

County chairman Alan Hardy claimed Forest turned him down and said they were sending Grant to a League One club.

Instead the 24-year-old has been unveiled this afternoon at the One Call Stadium where Stags already have top scorer Tyler Walker and keeper Jordan Smith on loan from the City Ground and earlier today signed Nicky Ajose on loan from Charlton Athletic.

Jorge Grant: I want promotion at Mansfield Town on my CV
chad.co.uk

New signing Jorge Grant says joining Mansfield Town is “a real opportunity to get a promotion on my CV”.

“This was one of the things that the gaffer (David Flitcroft) said to me,” the 24-year-old said after signing on loan from Nottingham Forest for the rest of the season.

“I didn’t get there last year, when I was with Notts County so, hopefully, I will make it this year. “I am delighted to be here. I have spoken to the manager a lot over the last week, and I watched the game against Yeovil on Saturday.

“I saw how the team play through the thirds, from the back and from the goalkeeper, and I think I can fit in really well here.”

Grant said that Stags’ top scorer Tyler Walker, who is on loan from Forest too, also played “a massive part” in his decision to come to Mansfield.

“I have known Tyler since we were 16 or 17, and we spend a lot of time together off the pitch,” he said. “He is one of my best friends in football, a really nice guy and a good footballer.

“We grew up learning football at Forest, and we play off each other and link up really well. “I grew up as a number ten or central midfielder. Last year, at Notts County, I was out wide on the left, which I didn’t mind because it added another string to my bow.

“I really enjoyed it out there, but my main position is number ten, and it will be nice to be back there.”

Grant was a revelation at Meadow Lane during the first part of last season’s promotion push by Notts County, and he attributed this to the influence of manager Kevin Nolan.

“He was really good for me, helping me to grow as a person, on and off the pitch, “ said Grant. “I really blossomed, especially in the first half of the season.

“I tend to flourish in a positive environment. Obviously, I have to be part of the team, but I like positivity, which I have seen at Mansfield straight away.

“In training, the lads have been enjoying themselves and working hard, even though they lost on Saturday.”

Grant spent the first half of this season in League One with promotion-chasing Luton Town, but that loan deal was terminated last week.

He said: “I started off really well, scored a few goals and played most weeks. But then I got a little niggle in my groin and had ten days off. “The lad who replaced me came in and did really well, which can sometimes happen in football, so I am looking forward to playing again.”

Outlining his strengths, Grant said: “I like to get in the hole and the pockets between midfield and the strikers. Through balls, crosses, shots, assists, goals, set-pieces - hopefully, I can bring them all to the table.

“Promotion has to be the main target. I am here as a Mansfield Town player first and foremost, not just as Jorge Grant. “I am match fit and excited to be here. I thank the chairman, the gaffer, the coaching staff and the players for welcoming me here, and my message to the fans is that, hopefully, we can enjoy the next few months together.”

Jorge Grant becomes third Nottingham Forest player to join Mansfield Town on loan
Attacking midfielder Jorge Grant will link up with Jordan Smith and Tyler Walker with the Stags
By Paul Taylor, 14 JAN 2019

https://www.nottinghampost.com/sport/football/transfer-news/jorge-grant-becomes-third-nottingham-2427911

Jorge Grant has joined Mansfield Town on loan, to join a growing band of Nottingham Forest players at the League Two club.

The attacking midfielder has joined the Stags until the end of the season, where he could play alongside striker Tyler Walker and keeper Jordan Smith.

Mansfield now have three players on loan from the Reds, with 24-year-old Grant having made the move to north Notts shortly after being recalled from a previous loan spell at Luton.

Grant made 17 starts and five sub appearances for the League One club, in all competitions, scoring four goals.

But he had found himself down the pecking order with the Hatters in recent times and will hope to get more regular football at Mansfield, under David Flitcroft.

Walker has already scored 16 goals in 29 starts and three sub appearances for the Stags and is playing a key role in their push for promotion. Keeper Smith joined on loan last week and made his debut in the 1-0 defeat to Yeovil on Saturday.

And now Grant could become a third Forest player to slot into the squad when Stags face Crawley tomorrow night.

Notts County had asked about taking Grant on loan in the last few days, but were not successful in their approach.

Earlier story:
Nottingham Forest turn down Jorge Grant loan bid from Notts County
The Magpies 'asked' the Reds about the attacking midfielder who has returned to the City Ground

By James Pallatt, 13 JAN 2019

Nottingham Forest look to have turned down a loan bid for Jorge Grant from Notts County.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has just returned to the City Ground after having a season-long loan at Luton Town cut short - and he played for the Reds' Under-23s side on Friday.

Magpies owner Alan Hardy has revealed on Twitter that Notts asked Forest about signing Grant, which would give their relegation battle in League Two a major boost, and suggested he was told the youngster will be going to a League One club.

Responding to a plea to sign Grant, who has already enjoyed two successful loan spells at Meadow Lane, Hardy wrote: "We've asked and he's going to L1 apparently".

Grant helped Notts reach the League Two play-offs semi-finals last season, scoring 15 goals.

We can confirm that Jorge Grant’s loan with Luton Town was terminated on Monday 7th January and the midfielder returned to his parent club Nottingham Forest.

The 24-year-old joined on a season-long loan last July and made 22 appearances for the Town - 17 starts and five from the bench - with his last coming in the Boxing Day win at Scunthorpe. In that time he has scored four goals.

All at Kenilworth Road would like to thank Jorge for his efforts during his six months at the club and wish him well for the rest of his career.
