Report from http://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk Mansfield Town 0 Oldham Athletic 1 Hall 88 pen Attendance: 5712 Clyde Wijnhard was the surprise inclusion in the Latics starting line-up after not being originally named in the squad. Lee Duxbury and David Beharall also started the match in place of the injured Danny Boshell and Matty Appleby. The match was incident packed with red cards, yellow cards and thankfully a penalty goal for Latics. In the opening minutes, Wijnhard got onto Andrews flick on from a long clearance he touched it on and it seemed to be touched over by Welch but Mansfield were awarded a goalkick. Just a few minutes later, Corden did well after beating Murray to Pogliacomi's clearance before advancing and cutting inside before curling a shot just wide. With just over quarter of an hour gone, Rhys Day became the first of many players to go in referee Taylor's notebook when he was cautioned for going through the back of Wijnhard. Latics took the freekick midway in the Mansfield half but Eyres ball in was cleared, Mansfield broke to the other end and it took a fine save by Pogliacomi to keep Latics level, Mansfield kept up the pressure but ended with Christie putting the ball over. With just over 20 minutes, Lawrence was booked after trying to cheat and get David Eyres booked. On 26 minutes Christie fired across goal after a mix up in the Latics defence caused by a bad header by Beharall. Andrews did well to release Eyres on the half hour mark but Welch came out well and emerged from the challenge with Eyres with the ball and just a few minutes later, David Eyres was sent off following an off the ball incident involving Disley as Latics were attacking, the only people who seemed to see the incident were the referee and his assistant. Iyseden Christie was booked for a foul on Fitz Hall with just under 10 minutes of the half to go and that was followed shortly after by Disley who was involved in the Eyres sending off incident being replaced by Williamson. Fitz Hall was booked with 5 minutes of the half remaining as Christie went down on the edge of the box. From the Mansfield freekick, Lawrence's effort flicked off the wall and behind for a corner. With a couple of minutes to go, Wayne Andrews was chopped down by Doane who deserved at least a yellow card given what had gone before, there was a melee involving a number of players that ended with Curtis and Haining booked but Doane escaped punishment. 2nd half Just after the re-start, Latics keeper Pogliacomi made a fine save to push away Williamson's drive from the edge of the area, Mansfield forced a couple of corners and from one, the ball came out to Eaton who hit a drive over and that was followed shortly after by Christie who fired a shot over from the side of the area. On 52 minutes, Clyde Wijnhard earned a freekick in a dangerous position in the centre on the edge of the area. Carss rolled the ball to Wijnhard who hit a low drive which Welch did well to keep out, as Andrews chased it in, the referee awarded Mansfield a freekick. 10 minutes into the 2nd half, the sides were evened up after Rhys Day was sent off following an aerial challenge with Tony Carss that left Carss falling to the ground clutching his head. Mansfield reacted by bringing Gadsby on for Corden and shortly afterwards, Eaton was booked for bringing down Andrews as he looked to go away from the Mansfield defence. Lawrence headed over from Doane's cross as Latics struggled to clear their lines on 65 minutes and a few minutes later, Lawrence went close again with a shot from around 30 yards out. With 20 minutes to go, Wayne Andrews did well to chase the ball down in the corner but with no support he had to try and curl in from a difficult angle and it went behind. A couple of minutes later, Armstrong won a corner for Latics but Murray's delivery was easily claimed by Welch. With quarter of an hour to go Latics made a substitution bringing Corazzin on for Wijnhard and Mansfield brought Mitchell on for Mendes. Mansfield won a corner with just over 10 minutes remaining, Lawrence's delivery was headed out twice by Corazzin, Mansfield got the ball back in and Will Haining was brave to head the ball with Christie attempting an overhead kick which caught the Latics defender in the face. At the other end Latics won a corner after a scramble which was headed clear by the Mansfield defence. Mansfield had a corner at the other end as both sides tried to force the issue, Lawrence played the ball short to Doane but his cross was headed clear by Hall. Lawrence who was proving to be an effective player shot wide from distance with Latics not picking up in midfield. With just a few minutes remaining, Latics were awarded a penalty after Andrews went down under the challenge from Lawrence and Curtis. With both David Eyres and Clyde Wijnhard off the pitch, Fitz Hall stepped up and casually slotted the ball into the bottom corner. In the closing seconds, Wayne Andrews took the ball to the corner before checking inside and hitting a shot that just faded wide. In time added on Eaton saw a strike saved by Pogliacomi before Andrews was chopped down again as his pace threatened to take him clear this time the culprit was Stags player manager Keith Curle who was sent off for the lunging challenge, Paul Murray reacted to the challenge but nothing came of it. In the dying seconds of time added on, Andrews who had taken a kicking all afternoon was replaced by Chris Killen.
