The midfielder was a crucial part of Boro’s rise into and up the EFL between 2009-2012 and since leaving, has played for Preston, Northampton and Mansfield.

“I am absolutely delighted to re-join Stevenage,” Byrom said. “My time here was the most enjoyable in my career and I am eager to try and help the team recreate some of those superb memories once again.”

Video & Quotes from Byrom upon his return to the club...

Byrom on returning to Stevenage…
“It feels brilliant. Earlier in the summer I spoke with the gaffer and right away I was looking to get myself down here and get going again.

“I am at that age now where I have got to take on a lot of responsibility, be a leader and be one of the voices in the dressing room and I think I can bring that to the team.”

Byrom on working under Maamria…
“I have played under the manager probably four different times now and that is what really drew me in. The fact that he is putting together a squad with a good mix of youth and experience and one that looks like it will be battling for promotion.

“He has always had that work ethic. He had it as a player, as a coach and now as a manager. That just rubs off on people and if you have that work ethic and everyone is pushing in the same direction, you have got half a chance.”

Byrom hoping to recreate some golden moments…
“The stand-out memories have got to be the promotions. We worked so hard for them over those two or three years that I was here and it was success after success.

“That is what I am looking for again this time. Every year you have got to be looking to get promoted, no matter what club you are at. If you don’t have that then I don’t think there is any point playing the game.”
