Midfielder makes Newport switch
mansfieldtown.net, 20th January 2017

Industrious midfielder Mitchell Rose has this afternoon signed for Newport County AFC.

After joining the Stags in May 2015, the 22-year-old went on to make 60 appearances, scoring five goals.

But first team outings have become scarce since the midfield was strengthened in this January transfer window.

“I can confirm to all Mansfield Town supporters that Mitchell Rose has left us to join Newport County,” said manager Steve Evans, speaking to http://www.mansfieldtown.net.

“Just over a week ago, Graham Westley [Newport's manager], made contact with me and asked about the availability of two of our players, one of whom was young Mitchell Rose.

“Given the work to redevelop the squad, it’s important that I balance the numbers, both in terms of the head count and financially for our chairman John Radford. Therefore, I have sanctioned the transfer to go ahead.

“Newport County get themselves a good player who can play in a number of key positions aswell as a good professional.

“It goes without saying that on behalf of everyone at the One Call Stadium, we wish Mitchell every success in the future.”

The manager added: “I have had to put on hold at lunchtime today two to three new incoming signings as all my focus is directed on the stern challenge of our visit to Cambridge United tomorrow afternoon.”

In other news, youth striker Tyler Blake has joined Mickleover Sports on a five week loan.

NEWPORT County AFC manager Graham Westley has added an 11th new player to his squad this month with the signing of midfielder Mitchell Rose - the younger brother of Tottenham Hotspur and England defender Danny Rose.

The 22-year-old joins on a short-term deal from Mansfield Town.

The deal is still subject to international clearance and Rose is unlikely to feature in tomorrow’s League Two clash at Barnet.

Speaking after the deal had been agreed Westley said: “It is widely known that I want to add to our midfield options and Mitch is an ideal recruit; youthful yet experienced, good footballing quality yet a strong athlete, forward-thinking yet a defensive competitor.

“He adds to our options and brings a huge ambition with him to South Wales.”

Rose started his career at Rotherham United and had loan spells at Stamford and Crawley Town before joining Ilkeston in 2014 where he was part of the 2014/15 team that reached the play-offs. He joined County’s League Two rivals Mansfield in May 2015.

Rose has played 23 times for the Stags this season, scoring three goals, and he was part of the team that won 3-2 at Rodney Parade on the opening day of the season.
