Adam Murray interview on StagsPlayer, 26May2016:
"We had options on all the players apart from Ryan (Tafazolli) and Reggie (Lambe).
We decided not to take up the option on Matty Blair. We offered him a deal that I thought was value for the player and the output, and Matty decided he that wanted to go somewhere else."

“Obviously regards to Matty Blair, we decided not to take the option up on Matty; we offered him a deal and what I thought was value for the player and the output and Matty decided that he wanted to go somewhere else and that’s fine. We thank Matty for the work he put in and we move on.”

Blair Becomes Second Signing
Tue 24 May 2016, doncasterroversfc.co.uk

Doncaster Rovers are delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Matty Blair from Mansfield Town on a two year deal.

Blair becomes Darren Ferguson’s second signing of the summer following last week’s acquisition of Tommy Rowe.

The 26 year-old made 34 appearances for the Stags last season in all competitions, scoring two goals.

Blair came through the non-league ranks and was picked up by Conference Premier side Kidderminster Harriers in August 2010, where he went on to score 11 goals in 43 outings.

He moved to then league rivals York City the following year and helped the Minstermen win promotion to League Two and the FA Trophy. He scored the second goal at Wembley in the 2-0 FA Trophy Final victory over Newport County and scored the winning goal a week later at the same venue as York defeated Luton 2-1 in the Conference Premier Play-Off Final to ensure promotion to the Football League.

In 2013 Blair made the move to League Two rivals Fleetwood Town and was again instrumental in their Play-Off success which saw them promoted to League One. He came back to haunt former club York, scoring the winning goal in the League Two Play-Off Semi-Final Second Leg victory, to give Fleetwood a 1-0 aggregate win and started in the Play-Off Final victory against Burton Albion.

Blair also had loan spells at Northampton Town and Cambridge United, before joining Mansfield on a permanent deal in January 2015.

He was offered a new contract at Field Mill, however the midfielder opted to head to the Keepmoat Stadium to join Rovers.

Speaking about joining Rovers, Blair said: “The move has come about quite quickly, I came and had a chat and really enjoyed what was said, it was really professionally done.

“I’ve been in the league a few years now and managed to get out of League Two with Fleetwood Town in the Play-Offs.

“I’d like to think I’m quite experienced in this league now and I know what it takes, I can’t wait to get going.

“Promotion is the ambition and was the main talking point in the meeting that we had and I’d be silly not to want to be part of that.”
