Mansfield Town chairman John Radford: ‘Your club needs YOU’
chad.co.uk,Tuesday 20 October 2015 John Radford has urged the town to get behind Stags’ League Two promotion bid. The Mansfield Town chairman has been pleased with how Adam Murray’s men have begun the campaign and believes their impressive form can have a positive impact around the town. Murray’s side find themselves taking centre stage in the early play-off picture ahead of Saturday’s trip to fellow promotion hopefuls Portsmouth, managed by former Chesterfield boss Paul Cook. An unbeaten home record was cruelly ended late on against Bristol Rovers last weekend in a game which attracted 4,196 - the highest gate at the One Call Stadium so far this season. And, with three of the next four league matches on home soil following the trip to Fratton Park, starting with the visit of Wycombe on October 31, Radford is eager for fans to show their support. He said “Everything’s so positive here at the moment. The whole place is vibrant and it’s such a nice place to be. It would be nice to get the gates up to around 3,500 to 4,000-plus. “The people that come are fantastic. Because that’s what we’re doing here. It puts a massive smile on your face. If we get the crowds, the wins will continue and we’ll have a snowball effect.” He added: “When the football club does well, it helps the town do well. Let’s get some positive vibes here in Mansfield.” Murray signed a new contract last week though Radford was keen to keep the details over the length of the deal private between manager and club. “I have a lot of confidence in Adam. I trust him and I feel he trusts me. I have a lot of faith in him and we have a really good working relationship,” said Radford, who reiterated his longing desire to see Stags in the Championship. “The priority for me is to get us in the Championship,” he said. “I think I’ve got the right manager in place and the right team together. I’m really pleased with what Adam’s men are doing at the moment. “He’s so focused on his game, as chairman I guide him a little bit, but I think he’s going to be a really fantastic manager. It’s a privilege to have him involved in this club and I’ll keep him for as long as I can. Radford added: “I think he will move on to bigger and better things along with the players he’s got. “I think they’re starting to realise how to work as a team and you can see them all stepping up to the mark.
