Skipper/assistant manager is set to serve a three-match suspension following an unsuccessful appeal against the red card that he was shown in last Saturday’s match against Accrington Stanley.

The midfielder, who has made over 200 appearances for us, was sent-off in the 82nd minute following a challenge on Stanley’s Rob Atkinson, whilst attempting to keep the ball in play.

The 33-year-old will next be available for selection for our Sky Bet League Two match against York City, which takes place on Saturday 25 October.

But the Stags have decided to appeal against skipper and assistant manager Adam Murrays’ red card from last weekend’s 1-0 home defeat by Accrington.

Murray was shown what looked a harsh straight red card near the end of Saturday’s defeat and he is hopeful he can get that rescinded before the weekend’s trip to Fratton Park.

“I basically didn’t think it was a red card,” said Murray. “If you look at the wording for a red card it has to be excessive force and, like I put in my report yesterday, I was simply trying to keep the ball in play and win a corner off their player.

“It was 82 minutes and we were 1-0 down and I was trying to get something positive for us. You can tell the way I approached the ball and bent my run to get round the defender.

“Down the years I have made some harsh tackles when I was not in control, but that wasn’t one.

“People know I am the type of lad that, if I had a rush of blood, I would hold my hands up. But on Saturday my sole focus was on the ball. Their player has leaned in towards me to shield the ball.

“The Burton lad who was sent-off here got his red card overturned and that was a lot worse than mine.

“I hope there is someone on the panel who has played football as that makes a difference. I was not out of control and didn’t go in two-footed. We will have to wait and see.”
