The 28-year-old forward has joined from Mansfield Town.

He started his career Sheffield United before joining Scarborough in 2005.

From the seaside he joined Bury, where he scored twice in a two-year spell at the club.

Spells in the non-league with Northwich Victoria, Farsley Celtic and Droylsden followed before Speight moved to Mansfield for the first of two spells.

He scored 17 goals in 33 games before joining Bradford City in 2010.

From the Bantams he joined Wrexham, and scored 21 goals in 38 games during a prolific season in 2011-12.

He then re-joined Mansfield in 2012, and scored seven goals in two seasons at Field Mill.

Last season, he spent time at Conference Premier side Alfreton, where he notched three goals in four games.

Town manager Simon Weaver: “I have known him for quite some time. I was at Scarborough with him when he was a youngster. He did ever so well at Wrexham and at Mansfield too.

“It’s a connection I have always kept with him. He’s going to be good with the younger lads.

“I am sure we are going to get him integrated straight away with the lads.”
