CARLTON PALMER SUSPENDED FOR STOCKPORT
24th December 2002 15:52

Preview: Mansfield v Stockport

CARLTON Palmer won't allow his rejuvenated Stockport County side to rest on their laurels against bottom side Mansfield.

A thumping 4-0 victory over Northampton on Friday gave County a much-needed boost at the start of the festive period, but Keith Curle's Mansfield also picked up three points at the weekend, winning 1-0 at Barnsley.

The Boxing Day game allows Palmer a chance to catch up with old mate Curle, now player-manager with the Stags, who he allowed to train with Stockport at the summer.

"I think we are well capable of going on a good run at some time," said Palmer, who is suspended for the trip to Mansfield.

"I keep saying it's just a matter of time and patience. That's all I'm asking for and we got a great performance from the lads against Northampton."

The County boss was unlikely to have included himself anyway having seen the way his side performed without him on Friday, saying he was keener on repeating that winning formula with the same team, which starred hat-trick hero Luke Beckett.

Midfielder Karim Fradin failed a fitness test on his injured groin before the Northampton match, but could make it to the bench on Thursday.

LAST SEASON: Different divisions

KEY OPPONENT: Former Manchester City and England defender Keith Curle

PREDICTION: Mansfield Town 0 Stockport County 1
