Boss anticipates quiet deadline day
mansfieldtown.net 2nd September 2013 Manager Paul Cox has confirmed that he is anticipating a quiet transfer deadline day at One Call Stadium. Read more at http://www.mansfieldtown.net/news/article/boss-anticipates-quiet-deadline-day-1030133.aspx#ZTy8Gktscshwx6Me.99 Speaking at his press conference this morning, our boss said: “I can’t see any permanent transfers [involving us] happening today. “Whether a few loans materialise throughout the day, you never know until your phone rings, but I’m expecting it to be a quiet day.” Meanwhile, Cox has also revealed that Conference North outfit Brackley Town have made an approach to sign midfielder Adam Murray on loan. Furthermore, a ‘couple of clubs’ have made enquiries about striker Jake Speight. “We sent a circular out towards the end of last week and Brackley Town came in for ‘Muz’ (Adam Murray), but other than that I’ve not had a phone call,” said Cox. “Until I sit down with ‘Muz’ this afternoon, nothing will be happening.” He continued: “Jake (Speight) has spoken to a couple of clubs and his name has been mentioned to me a few times, but nothing as yet, is happening. “If nothing happens, I’ve told Jake to get his head down and try to get into the first team. Murray sprang a surprise last week when it was revealed that, despite being assistant manager, he was unhappy not being in the side and had asked to go out on loan to get some games under his belt. And Speight, having dropped well down the pecking order, also looked set to go out. With no clubs having enquired about a move for him on a permanent basis by today, Cox thought it now seemed more likely Speight would go out on loan or stay and battle for a place. “There won’t be anyone coming in and I’d be surprised if there was anyone going out, so I think it will be quite a quiet day,” said Cox. “I will be speaking to Adam Murray after training today to see where the land lies. Before the weekend we wanted to concentrate on the build-up to the Dagenham game. “I put out a circular at the end of last week but I have not had any phone calls. But I believe Adam and his representative have sorted out something with Brackley in the Conference North which I think would initially be for a month. It’s all a bit vague at the moment so I need to sit down with him. “It’s up to him and I have to abide by his decision. Adam wants to play football and I can’t please all the people all the time. But it’s certainly not the end for him here or Jake. I have a good relationship with both players and want to see them working hard to get back into my first team. “A couple of clubs have spoken to Jake but nothing has happened as yet. If nothing does happen then I hope he will get his head down and try to get back in the first team. He will be given the same opportunities as everyone else.” Paul Black, who has been out on loan at Carlisle, is almost at the end of his month but was injured at the weekend, so no decision has yet been made on extending the deal or recalling him to the One Call. “We will cross that bridge when we speak to him,” said Cox. Otherwise, the manager was in in no rush today to strengthen his promoted side that has just gone four games unbeaten in the Football League with Saturday’s 3-0 win over Dagenham. “This is one of the better starts we have made,” he said. “I am happy with the team, we are playing consistently well and we have some very good players to come into the side who are champing at the bit.” Ollie Palmer and James Jennings, who went off injured on Saturday, should both be fit for the trip to York next weekend. Palmer took a bang to the head while Jennings went over on his ankle. “Ollie said the bang to his head had affected his sight but it probably just knocked a bit of sense into him,” smiled Cox. “We thought JJ’s injury looked serious. But he went for an X-ray afterwards and it wasn’t a fracture as we had thought. Both players will probably miss a training day or two, but I hope both will be okay for Saturday.” ------------------ |
