Stags boss Paul Cox, who will miss the game while taking a final look at a striker he wants to sign, said he will mix the squad up tonight to try to give everyone at least 45 minutes.

“I will leave one or two out for tonight and wrap them up in cotton wool for Saturday,” he said. “We have had some tough games and players like Lee Beevers (pictured) have played a lot of football. I will be resting Sam Clucas too.

“I want to try to give players 45 minutes tonight and some a bit longer who need it.”

Cox said he had a team in his head for Saturday’s opener at Scunthorpe, adding: “It’s not going to be a million miles away from the side that played last season.

“We may have a new centre forward to accommodate and I can’t do much about any injuries that get picked up.

“But the majority of the squad are still here from last season. So it’s not like we have a brand new squad that need to get to know each other. Most of them know each other and their role in the team already.”
