McGuire, who made 40 appearances for Fleetwood Town last season, was also part of the Cod Army which won the Blue Square Premier title in 2012.

After putting pen to paper, the 29-year-old told us: “I’ve known Paul (Cox) for a while, from my days at Cammell Laird and when he was at Eastwood. What he did last year with Mansfield was incredible. As soon as he showed an interest in me I wanted to tie down the deal.”

Paul Cox told us: “I think my relationship with Jamie has aided the signing. He has been coveted by a number of clubs, from non-league and Football League. He is an all-action player who I would describe as ‘a complete winner’.”

Jamie McGuire’s contract will officially commence on July 01.

Speaking at this morning’s press meeting, Cox was pleased to announce that youth team players Jason Gregory, Ben Birch and Liam Marsden have been offered professional deals

McGuire, who made 40 appearances for Fleetwood Town in League Two last season, was also part of the Cod Army which won the Blue Square Premier title in 2012.

After putting pen to paper, the 29-year-old told the club’s official website http://www.mansfieldtown.net: “I’ve known Paul (Cox) for a while, from my days at Cammell Laird and when he was at Eastwood. What he did last year with Mansfield was incredible. As soon as he showed an interest in me, I wanted to tie down the deal.”

Cox said: “I think my relationship with Jamie has aided the signing. He has been coveted by a number of clubs, from non-league and Football League. He is an all-action player who I would describe as ‘a complete winner’.

“Jamie was a lad who probably lost his way very early in his career and started losing interest in football.

“Since then he has got a number of games and trophies under his belt.”

Cox added: “Jamie is not just a competitor, he is a very technically gifted player as well. He shows the same kind of hunger and desire that I want from players at this football club.

“I have had my eye on him for a while but it wasn’t in my remit to sign him. Now he has become available.

“He was a crowd favourite at Fleetwood and I am sure he will be here.

“Jamie is in the Adam Murray mould in that he likes to get about the park. He is one of those players you don’t realise they are there, then they don’t play and you miss them.

A product of the Tranmere Rovers youth set-up, McGuire’s contract with Mansfield will officially start on 1st July.
