BARNWELL URGES WATKISS TO WAIT

Barnwell urges Watkiss to cool it

League Managers' Association boss John Barnwell says Mansfield's Stuart Watkiss should distance himself from the controversy surrounding the Bristol City game until the referee's report has been filed.
Watkiss, who was dismissed after the game along with midfielder Liam Lawrence and club captain Neil Moore, faces a three-match touchline ban for foul and abusive language after complaining to referee Eddie Ilderton over the amount of injury time he played in the 5-4 defeat at Field Mill.

Although Lawrence was shown the red card after the game, Mansfield claim Watkiss and Moore did not find out about their sendings-off until Monday morning, fuelling speculation Watkiss is set to appeal.

But Barnwell has urged the Mansfield boss to err on the side of caution and said: ''As I said to Stuart, the best thing is not to act too quickly. Once the referee has handed his report to the FA then we will go through the normal channels.

''Our role is to look at what has happened and analyse the situation before making a decision based on our experience.

''Obviously he doesn't have to take our advice, but he will certainly be wise to do so.''
