Steve Hymas, Darren Bland and Andy Saunders resigned from the board at Field Mill last week after a number of disagreements behind the scenes.

But now the trio have controversially decided to start a new club which they have called AFC Mansfield.

They have signed a five-year deal to play at Forest Town and will be joining the non-league pyramid in the Central Midlands League.

In a statemen, the three said: “Since leaving the One Call Stadium we have been inundated with offers from local clubs to join up with them.

“As football fans we wanted to stay in the game and get back to enjoying our Saturdays with our families and friends, but as Mansfield fans found it very difficult to associate with any other name.

“Therefore we had only one real option and can now reveal the worst kept secret in town, that we have formally set up as AFC Mansfield and have just signed a five-year deal to play at Forest Town.

“We will be known also by our nickname, The Bulls.”

Mr Hymas, Mr Bland and Mr Saunders said that AFC Mansfield is a community club and is not intended to be a rival of Mansfield Town, which they said was still 'dear in our hearts'.

“We see this as an alternative for ourselves and anyone that wants to give something back to grassroots football in Mansfield,” they added.

AFC Mansfield is now in the process of recruiting a manager and building our team for the coming season.
