PETITION LAUNCHED OVER U-16 SEASON TICKET PRICES

Petition launched as anger rises over Stags' U16 season ticket prices

A MASSIVE rise in the price of under-16 season tickets at Mansfield Town for the forthcoming season has angered supporters.

Last season for all stands in the ground under-16s could buy a season ticket for £90, discounted by £20 at Early Bird prices while under-sevens' tickets were £25

But this season youngsters aged between 11 and 16 must now pay a full concession price of £230 in the Ian Greaves Stand upper tier or £186 elsewhere with an Early Bird discount of £30 if bought by the end of this month while the youngest price has risen to £75 for U10s in the Ian Greaves Stand Upper Tier and £60 elsewhere.

This means the Stags are now believed to have the most expensive U16 ticket in the bottom three leagues in the country.

Local rivals Forest and Notts County allow U12s in free with a paying adult and their season ticket prices are U18s £155 at Forest with U16s £60 at Notts.

Some Mansfield supporters are so angry they have even begun on online petition stating: “The 11 to 16-year-old category is an important age group for gathering fans for future generations.

“We need as many youngsters as possible to witness the club being successful, with John Radford and Paul Cox in charge the club is now in a position to be successful.

“These young fans are the lifeblood of the football club and must be catered for.

“With Mansfield not being the most affluent place in the country not many would be able to afford to attend every game, even if we are running away with the league.

“As it stands, when it comes to playing Dartford on a cold, wet Tuesday night in December we would struggle to have 1,500 fans in the stadium.”

Fans are also beginning to contact the Chad and Nick Felton said: “An under 16s season ticket has gone up 110 per cent from £90 to £230.

“I find this disgraceful and have a distraught 12-year-old who won't be able to go to every game now as we simply can't afford it.

“My wife contacted the club and was told there was nothing they could do as those were the prices we were given.

“We usually buy three season tickets but won't be getting any this season as it takes it out of our price range and after looking on stagsnet there appears to be plenty of other people in the same situation.

“Just when everything seems to be going well at the club they have well and truly shot themselves in the foot.”

Julie Keeling said: “I am really disappointed to have to tell my 15-year-old son that we won't be able to purchase him a season ticket this season due to the huge price increase penalising the Stags' next generation fan base.”

No one was available from the club for comment today though director Steve Hymas said on stagsnet that the board was not involved in the new pricing structure.

Adults prices are £310 for the Ian Greaves upper tier and £260 elsewhere with a £30 discount for any existing season ticket holders and a £30 Early Bird discount if bought before the end of the month for new season ticket holders.

Last season the club pleased fans by freezing season tickets prices at £280/£260 adult and £170 concession with the cheaper tickets for U16s and U7s.

What do you think to the new U16 prices?

from Darren Shaw, Stags Fans United

The season ticket prices were not agreed by the board of directors as already mentioned on here by Steve and Darren B.

U11-U16 season ticket prices are an obvious concern and I have passed your comments on to John and Carolyn. It may just be something that's been overlooked. Let's not forget that John is heavily subsidising the club from his own pocket at the moment and that we would not have a club without him. John is also always willing to talk to fans.

If anybody has any other concerns then please feel free to pm me.

I have asked our CEO to take a look at the season ticket prices that the board affirmed last week (bar Darren Shaw who unfortunately could not attend). I thank all season ticket holders for their loyal support and guarantee all money collected will go directly to help build a promotion winning squad for us all. Please continue to purchase season tickets and if adjustments are made we will refund the difference. COYS
