The boss has confirmed that he has had no enquiries for the 25-year-old, who bagged 30 goals in all competitions for us last season.

"There will be a lot of speculation this summer surrounding our better players and we cannot stop speculation at this stage of the season," said Cox.

"Matt has had a tremendous season with us and as I said recently, we are in the process of putting together a squad which will improve on our position of third place from last season - to do that we aim to keep our best players.

"I have not had one single enquiry about Matt," he added

STAGS boss Paul Cox today quashed speculation that 30-goal Matt Green might be off to Preston North End.

A national news story suggested Preston, along with Burnley, were tracking Green, who is under contract at the One Call Stadium next season.

But Cox said: “I have not had one single enquiry about Matt.

“There will be a lot of speculation this summer surrounding our better players and we cannot stop speculation at this stage of the season. “Matt has had a tremendous season with us and as I said recently, we are in the process of putting together a squad which will improve on our position of third place from last season - to do that we aim to keep our best players.”

On Monday Stags turned down a below-valuation bid from Burnley for full-back Luke O'Neill.

Sky Sports understands several clubs are chasing highly-rated Mansfield striker Matt Green.

Green enjoyed a superb season with Mansfield in the Blue Square Bet Premier this term, netting 29 goals for the Stags.

The 25-year-old's form has not gone unnoticed among clubs higher up the football pyramid, with a number of sides weighing up moves for the former Cardiff man this summer.

Barnsley and Preston are both thought to be admirers of Green having watched him on several occasions this season.

Mansfield are reluctant to lose their star striker, but could face a fight to keep hold of him if they get a sizeable offer for his services.
