report by Steve Hymas

Matt Green made it 1-0 to Mansfield, then a late penalty made it 1-1.

Mansfield played some neat football on a very tricky surface. We well deserved our lead and should have gone on to win it. Roberts looked top class again and Hutchinson has a good touch and neat control. Smith looked sharp on the wing and caused them problems. It was a 4-4-2 set up and looked very attack minded. For all the possession we had very few shots on goal but that was the only complaint.

Akinfenwa for Northampton makes Briscoe look anorexic and if this is typical of their season expect to see them in the BSP next season. A good display all round from Mansfield.

Trialist Chapman did not get any time on the pitch as it was mainly match practice for our regulars as we had no game on Saturday.

Notts friendly called off
mansfieldtown.net, Tue 17 Jan 2012

This afternoon's proposed behind-closed-doors friendly at home to Notts County has been cancelled due to a frozen pitch.

Paul Cox's men were set to take part in their second friendly match in as many days but dipping temperatures overnight has left the pitch frozen.

A Stags XI drew 1-1 at Northampton Town yesterday, which included Hednesford defender Chris Shaw in our line up.

Prolific frontman Matt Green put us on the scoresheet after he slotted home from an Adam Smith assist.

LINE UP: Marriott, O'Neill, Shaw, Dempster, Sutton, Smith, Briscoe, Roberts, Murray, Hutchinson, Green

Bad weather spoils Stags' friendly plans
chad.co.uk, Wednesday 18 January 2012

THE frosty ground spoiled Mansfield Town's hopes of getting players tuned up for the weekend as well as looking at potential new signings.

Monday's game at Northampton Town - the second of three planned behind-closed-doors friendlies during a two-week lay-off - was abandoned after 75 minutes as the Sixfields surface hardened with the score at 1-1, Matt Green the scorer. And yesterday's third friendly at Notts County was called off.

On Monday manager Paul Cox played his first team squad players with the hope of playing trialists and everyone else on Tuesday, but the weather ruined his plans.

In the 3-0 friendly win at Eastwood Town last week, new striker Ben Hutchinson played and he, Danny Mitchley and Jon Worthington all found the net. Adam Smith also played 45 minutes after his return from his loan spell at Aldershot.

Last Wednesday night Mansfield Town's youth team returned to the top of the table after beating MMU Newcastle 2-1. Matt Harris gave Stags a 66th minute lead that lasted only nine minutes before skipper Jobe Shaw grabbed a late winner
