Cox targets Dempster signing
Nottingham Post, Thursday, January 05, 2012 JOHN Dempster has been so impressive since joining Mansfield Town on loan that the club want to sign him permanently, boss Paul Cox revealed today. http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/story-14331507-detail/story.html The central defender has only been at Field Mill since the latter part of November after joining from Crawley. He still has more than half of a three-month temporary stint still to go with the Stags, having so far made seven appearances and scored twice. But Cox is already keen to snap up the former Kettering and Rushden man for keeps. Such a move could well be governed by finance, given the club have just sealed deals for Gary Roberts, Ben Hutchinson and Matt Green. The club's budget will be further stretched with winger Adam Smith's loan at Aldershot due to end this weekend. "John is a great character and a leader and his performances have been excellent," said Cox. "He is someone I would love to see here for good and I think he is a tremendous defender." Fellow loanee Kieron Freeman has left Mansfield to return to Forest following a successful loan – but Cox insists he could yet be back. The teenage defender shone during his two-month stay. Cox said: "Kieron feels he has got a chance of getting in the Forest first-team squad. "He wants to have a chat with Steve Cotterill to see where he is at. I hope everything goes well for him. "I think we have helped his development – he's matured over the two months. "But if he becomes available again, we would be pleased to have him back here." Fit-again Joe Kendrick stands by to fill in, though a loan signing is possible |
