A fee had been agreed with Oxford two months ago for the services of the former Cardiff City marksman and now our leading talisman can look forward to the rest of the campaign after signing on the dotted line.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic start to his Field Mill career after bagging 15 goals since signing on loan from Oxford United.

After putting pen to paper, Green told mansfieldtown.net: "I'm happy here. The gaffer has been instrumental in my development and has shown belief in me.

"I'd like to thank all the staff at the club and the supporters for their support and for making me feel welcome.

"I'll now look to push on to help give the club success in the forthcoming seasons."

Fans have been eagerly waiting for news that Green would put pen to paper on a much talked about contract offer - and the news came on a busy Friday at Field Mill.

Following the signings of Gary Roberts and Ben Hutchinson, the Stags said that Green would be staying at the Mill to help the club's promotion aspirations.

A fee had been agreed with Oxford United two months ago for the services of the former Cardiff City marksman and now the Stags' leading talisman can look forward to the rest of the campaign after signing on the dotted line.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a fantastic start to his Field Mill career after bagging 15 goals since signing on loan from Oxford United in the summer.

Green told the Stags' official website, http://www.mansfieldtown.net: “I'm happy here. The gaffer (Paul Cox) has been instrumental in my development and has shown belief in me. I'd like to thank all the staff at the club and the supporters for their support and for making me feel welcome.

“I'll now look to push on to help give the club success in the forthcoming seasons. Meanwhile, midfielder Paul Bolland has joined Conference North outfit Harrogate Town on a month's loan

Green on cusp of permanent Stags switch
Nottingham Post, Thursday, December 29, 2011

MANSFIELD Town aim to tie up the permanent signing of Matt Green before the end of the week.

http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/story-14267629-detail/story.html

The 15-goal striker has spent the first half of 2011-12 on loan at Field Mill from Oxford United.

A fee for the player to move to the Stags for good – believed to be around £20,000 – has long since been agreed. But only now are Mansfield drawing up a contract for Green to sign, which will keep him at the club until summer 2013.

Even if the deal does not go through before New Year's Day's clash at York City, the Bath-born hitman should still be available.

Green's loan includes January 1 and only after that would he return to Oxford.

"I spoke to Greeny again on Tuesday night and everything has been agreed," said manager Paul Cox.

"Hopefully, it is all going to be written up and signed this week ahead of the York game.

"To get someone like Matt in place will be great news, not just for this year but next, because we know all about the goals he can score us.

"I think the money we are spending will prove to be money well spent."

After opening the scoring in Boxing Day's 1-1 home draw with York, Green went off with a dead leg in the second half.

Cox added: "He had an injection at half-time, but it didn't improve.

"However, we think he should be fit for Sunday's game."

Comment by Martin - this is INCORRECT. Green's loan run until 31 Dec only.
