New Mansfield CEO 'engaged to chairman'
Mon Sep 26 2011, 04:25PM
The 29-year-old woman who recently became football's youngest CEO is reportedly engaged to the man who gave her the job.
Carolyn Still's appointment as CEO of Mansfield Town earlier this month quickly became a national story, but the tabloids soon turned on the politics graduate with the Sun even claiming that she used to work as an escort.
Now, the Daily Record has tarnished her credibility yet further by reporting that she is engaged to be married to Mansfield chairman John Radford, 45, who was the man who gave her the position.
The paper says that "John, 45, popped the question last week and the happy couple told friends and family at the weekend."
Only this weekend Radford was been forced to come out and defend the appointment of Still, saying he employed her on purely football grounds after the club was rocked by the publicity the papers gave the story.
"I sat down and talked with her and she said there was no truth in them (the escort rumours) and that's it," he told the Mansfield and Ashfield Chad.
"It is now a legal issue at the moment and has to be dealt with.
"When you appoint someone like Carolyn Still you are going to get a bit of press as she doesn't look like your normal CEO at a football club.
"But she is very good at her job. She has held very high positions at multi-million pound companies and she will be very effective for Mansfield Town Football Club.
"Obviously she was hurt by the stories but Carolyn has picked herself up and is getting on with the job."
After she took the job Still said: "This has been a genuine appointment. I have worked hard to get where I am."

Mansfield Town chief executive Carolyn Still, 29, will marry the chairman John Radford, 45, next year.
Carolyn was given the top job this month in a blaze of publicity.
She and John repeatedly denied being an item and said their friendship had nothing to do with her appointment.
But the Mirror can reveal they were a couple before he made her boss of the Nottinghamshire club.
And John popped the question last week, with the happy couple telling friends and family at the weekend.
A spokesman for the the Blue Square Bet Premier club – one level below the Football League – confirmed the engagement yesterday but said Carolyn did not want to comment.
Asked about their rumoured relationship after landing the job, the former politics student said: “I don't feel it's appropriate at this stage to comment.
“This has been a genuine appointment. I have worked hard to get where I am.
“I have known John for a couple of years and in the last year I have worked with him in a consultancy capacity.
“He's obviously a very busy businessman and the fact I already know him will work in the club's favour.
“I will be able to call him on the phone and talk over any issues at any point.”
It was claimed last week that Carolyn is a former escort who had dates with male customers while allegedly on the books of two agencies.
She then worked as an account manager for top fashion labels Bulgari and Gucci.
Dismissing the escort reports, John said: “I sat down and talked with her and she said there was no truth in them and that's it. It is now a legal issue at the moment and has to be dealt with.
“When you appoint someone like Carolyn you are going to get a bit of press as she doesn't look like your normal chief executive officer at a football club.
“But she is very good at her job. Obviously she was hurt by the stories but she is getting on with the job.”

The football club owner, the former escort, and a bizarre job offer that now makes sense

Mansfield Town provides an unlikely backdrop for the romance
Were it not set against the backdrop of non-league Mansfield Town Football Club, the romantic tale of a young lady and a wealthy businessman might not be all that remarkable.
Two weeks after John Radford, the middle-aged millionaire chairman of the Nottinghamshire club, made 29-year-old Carolyn Still football's youngest chief executive, the pair, who had previously denied any romantic involvement, are to be wed.
At the time of her appointment, the Durham University politics graduate admitted she had known Mr Radford for a couple of years. In 2009 she is reported to have left a job at Seabrook Crisps for a second stint at escorting.
It is a career she is thought to have first began a decade ago, while still a student at Durham, where she worked for escort agency Lucy Brookes. A number of revealing photographs were reportedly posted online under the name "Luella".
Far down the A1M in Doncaster, Mr Radford, 16 years her senior, was growing his retail property maintenance business One Call, the success of which allowed him to buy Mansfield Town for just £1.
Ms Still moved to London, working in executive assistant roles at fashion houses Gucci and Bulgari. She moved to Leeds in 2009, to study for a post-graduate law course, and is said to have returned to escorting with a leading agency, Mckenzies.
"It's a great privilege. I intend to add vibrancy and fresh ideas to our approach off the field," Ms Still said on taking up the post at Mansfield FC, marrying the chairman evidently being one of them.
Ms Still and Mr Radford are reported to have confirmed their engagement to friends and family at the weekend. Both were unavailable for comment yesterday.
"There's an away game at Wrexham tonight, so they've gone to that," said club a spokesperson. It looked like being a passionate encounter. Ahead of the game, Wrexham were top of the Blue Square Premier while the Stags were just four points behind
Mansfield Town's new boss used to be an escort. Well that should silence critics who says she hasn't got any experience with footballers.
