Todd, 32, follows Micky Moore to Field Mill, who joined last week as assistant manager.

The ex-Nottingham Forest trainee has a wealth of experience in the region having played for Worksop, Hucknall and more recently Eastwood Town - where he played last season scoring 12 goals.

Todd also adds Burton, Accrington Stanley, and Rotherham United to his résumé in a career spanning over ten years.

Said Manager Paul Cox: "Knowing Andrew, he'll want to be in the first 11 every week. I would be surprised if he isn't one of the fittest players in pre-season training as he looks after himself immaculately.

"He won this league five or six years ago with Accrington and will be a great addition to the backroom staff, as well as the squad.

"He is a competitor and a 'winner'," added Cox

Todd 'excellent' addition to backroom staff
Nottingham Post, Wednesday, June 29, 2011

ANDY Todd will be an 'excellent' final piece of the backroom staff at Mansfield Town, insists manager Paul Cox.

The 32-year-old former Eastwood Town winger joins as player-coach, supporting Mickey Moore (assistant) and Jason Truscott (physio).

Todd has been back to university to complete coaching and fitness qualifications, while also playing in the Blue Square Bet North with the Badgers last season.

He has previously played for the likes of Worksop, Hucknall, Acrrington and Rotherham during a successful playing career in both the Football League and non-league.

And Cox believes that experience will prove invaluable – both on the training ground and on the pitch.

"Andy has experience of winning this division before with Accrington and got better and better as a player last season," said Cox.

"He will want to be in the first team every week, but he will do an excellent job for us in his coaching role as well.

"It's important to have people around you who you know and trust and I obviously know him well from his time at Eastwood."

Mansfield's players report back for pre-season training on Friday and Cox admits he cannot wait.

He said: "I think the next two weeks are massive for us and hopefully the lads will take on board what we are trying to do.

"We will measure their body fats and do all the checks and then step things up a little bit on Saturday.

"But it will be Monday when we will really step it up and they will sleep well that night because we need to get the fitness levels right.

"I know I need to sit behind my desk and put in the phone calls, but, for me, that is the mundane side of the job.

"They are exciting times because I just want to get out there and work with the players and that time is almost here."

Cox confirmed former Stag Craig Disley – who has this week joined Grimsby – had originally been on his hit-list, adding: "I spoke to Craig a couple of times and he is a good player, but I made the decision to go with Paul Bolland and Jon Worthington."

ANDY Todd has been named as Mansfield Town's new player-coach.

The 32-year-old was a key member of the Eastwood Town side that finished fourth in the Blue Square Bet North last season.

But he has also been back to university to do coaching and fitness qualifications.

Todd expects to combine his backroom duties with vying for a place in the Mansfield team.

He has a wealth of experience under his belt with the likes of Worksop, Hucknall, Alfreton – where he won the Blue Square Bet Premier title – and Rotherham.

"I think Andy will be an excellent acquisition to the club and completes my backroom team," said manager Paul Cox, who confirmed physio Jason Truscott will remain in place.

"Knowing him he will still want to be in the first 11 every week, but he will have other duties as well.

"I will be very surprised if he is not among the fittest when we start pre-season because he has really looked after himself.

"He got better and stronger the longer the season went on at Eastwood last season."
