STAGS LADIES ITALIAN JOB
7th April 2002 20:17

Mansfield Town ladies on an Easter break in the sun capped mountains of Italy courtesy of sponsors Interski Travel sustained injuries to key players Gemma tucker ( thigh strain ) and Amy Scutts ( Ankle ligaments ) following a 2-2 draw against U.S.Quart .

The visitors were 2 goals to the good at half time following strikes from the impressive Kaley Dumelow and Emily Clarke.
Stags suffered a set back after 25 minutes when Influential fullback Scutts was taken off injured.

The local referee had a enormous impact in the second half awarding a dubious free kick which flew into the top corner.

Kath Bailey in her first match for a year following a broken ankle went close to saving a hotly disputed penalty kick which levelled the score for the Italians.

The match was extremely competitive and Mansfield boss Bailey was not impressed at the prospect of arriving home with injuries at such a crucial time of the season.

" The girls were very tired and struggled with the high altitude but overall we were pleased with the commitment of the team. Scutty and Tucks are usually quick healers and we will keep our fingers crossed"

The team currently top of division 3 need to win their last 3 games all away in order to ensure promotion.
The ladies travel to Shirebrook,Harborough, and Sandiacre . the latter arguably the toughest test.

Stags Ladies are guests of honour at the Odeon cinema on Saturday April 13th at the premiere of Bend it like Beckham.
The team will be present between 1 and 3 PM and cinema goers will be invited to take part in a penalty contest against Stags keepers Amanda west, Kath Bailey and Sarah Bradford.
