Youth team closes
mansfieldtown.net, Mon 09 Aug 2010 Despite every effort to keep it alive, it is with regret that we announce the closure of our youth team due to a lack of funds. http://www.mansfieldtown.net/page/NewsDetail/0,,10325~2116106,00.html The news comes almost two months after the closure of our Centre of Excellence, following the end of £90,000 funding from the Football League. An income stream which had previously been agreed to fund the youth team by the previous Chairman has not materialised. Said interim Chairman Andrew Saunders: "It comes with immense disappointment that the youth team has come to a sad end, after massive efforts to try and keep it running. "It would cost a minimum of £50,000 to run the youth team for one season - which the Football Club is unable to finance, at this moment in time." The news means that any planned youth team games for this season in the North East Conference, including tonight's friendly away at Blidworth, have been cancelled, for which we apologise. ------------------- |
