The two charges, brought by the Football Association, date back to the player's time on Rushden and Diamonds' books.
Burgess, currently out with a calf strain, has also been fined £500 and handed a suspended three-month ban.
His suspension will start on February 4, meaning we will be unavailable for six Blue Square Premier games.
Mansfield have announced they will not appeal against the FA's decision.
An FA Statment read: "At a regulatory commission hearing today, Andrew Burgess was suspended from playing football for one month, with a further three month suspended ban, and fined £500 for breaches of FA betting rules.
"Burgess admitted two offences related to bets placed on matches in which he featured while he played for Rushden and Diamonds in the 2008-09 season.
"Burgess placed a £45.45 bet on Rushden to beat Mansfield Town on February 28 2009 and a £5 bet on Rushden team-mate Curtis Woodhouse to be the first goalscorer in a match against Kidderminster Harriers on November 15 2008.
"The one-month suspension is effective from February 4. The suspended three month ban will be invoked should Burgess be found guilty of any similar offences in the future.
"FA rules prohibit football participants from betting on the result or progress of any match or competition in which the participant is participating or has any direct or indirect influence."
A Mansfield club spokesman said: "Andrew has had a fair hearing.
"All players at Mansfield Town are aware of the rules and regulations when it comes to betting on football matches."
