The 26 year old began his career at Sheffield Wednesday before moving to Burton Albion in the summer of 2004.

Jon, who stands at 6ft 1in, scored 31 goals in all competitions during his time with Burton, and his talents were soon spotted by Halifax Town, who paid an undisclosed fee for his services in August 2007.

He netted no fewer than 27 times for The Shay and subsequently moved for another undisclosed fee to Rochdale in 2008.

A year ago, he joined Crawley Town on loan, scoring five times in 18 appearances. Eight months later, he linked up with Barrow, bagging five goals in 15 starts.

Shaw then had a brief loan spell at Gateshead last month and has today terminated his contract with Rochdale to join us.

Shaw: I'll wait for Stags chance
Evening Post, January 15, 2010

JON Shaw admits he may have to bide his time before winning a place in Mansfield Town's starting line-up.
The striker has today completed his move from Rochdale and is available for the Blue Square Premier trip to AFC Wimbledon tomorrow.
But he knows he is by no means guaranteed to start at Kingsmeadow, or in the games that immediately follow.
Strike trio Rob Duffy (12 goals), Kyle Perry (11) and Jake Speight (seven) are all in good form and Shaw knows it might be a case of remaining patient for his chance.
"I don't expect just to walk straight into the side, especially with the team doing well," said Shaw.
"But I will work as hard as I can and make sure I am ready for when I get the nod.
"The Mansfield squad has a good blend, you can see that. They have some experienced players like Craig Armstrong and Paul Heckingbottom.
"And then there is Andy Burgess, who I don't think should be playing below Football League level.
"There are some very good players at the club and we will all be working hard for the same thing – success.
"I'm coming into a team who are on the up, where the games will be coming thick and fast.
"I'm all about hard work and will battle for things in the air. Hopefully I can keep chipping in with the goals too.
"I'm no Ronaldo or Ronaldinho, but I will try to make it as hard as I can for defenders."
Shaw, 26, has penned an 18-month deal and had no doubt the Stags were the right club for him.
He said: "They are a side who are not supposed to be in this league and they have the ambitions to get back into the Football League.
"You can tell with the way the manager talks he believes we can get promotion this year – and I have seen it happen.
"Even last year, Burton did go up, but only on goal difference after they had a 19 point lead at one stage.
"It is also a fantastic move for me location-wise because I live just down the road in Derby."
Former Sheffield Wednesday trainee Shaw scored five goals in 11 starts on loan at Barrow earlier this season.
He also had a short spell at Gateshead and has previously played a Conference level with Burton.
Shaw hopes that experience will stand him in good stead while at Mansfield.
"I'm hoping the matches I have played in this league before will help me a lot. I know what to expect," he said.
"I enjoyed my spell at Barrow earlier in the season during which time they beat Mansfield – which I have mentioned to the gaffer!
"But that has gone now and my focus is on helping Mansfield push on towards top spot and if not clinch a place in the play-offs."

Holdsworth: Why I brought Shaw to Stags
Evening Post, January 15, 2010

STRIKER Jon Shaw is set to sign an 18-month contract at Mansfield Town today with manager David Holdsworth insisting he has the 'hunger and calibre' to shine.

The 6ft 1in former Sheffield Wednesday trainee has agreed a deal at Field Mill after leaving League Two Rochdale.
Providing the deal goes through without a hitch, Shaw, 26, will be available for tomorrow's trip to AFC Wimbledon.
And Holdsworth believes the man who has been on loan to Barrow and Gateshead this season can hit the ground running.
"Jon is as ambitious as I am to go places with Mansfield – and that's what I want in my dressing room," he said.
"I recognised that in his manner from the first moment I met him. He is hungry to provide the team with more goals and he has the calibre I want around.
"Everyone I have spoken to in the last two months about a goalscorer who can aid our play off push has said the same thing – Jon Shaw."
Shaw will be seen as a direct replacement for Daryl Clare, who left for Gateshead last week to go part-time.
But Holdsworth says the former Burton and Halifax hitman has his own strengths.
He added: "Jon has an excellent goals return, is strong and athletic and he is certainly at the right age."
Meanwhile, popular goalkeeper Alan Marriott has signed a second contract extension inside a year.
The 31-year-old is now tied to the club until May 2012.
"The club have looked after me and have rewarded me and I thank the chairman and manager for that," he said.
"This club has a family atmosphere and expectations here are high.
"I want to play until I am 40, hopefully with Mansfield – it is a club which fits my bill off and on the pitch."
Holdsworth said: "It is like signing a new player, it's a no-brainer. As a player I was rewarded by Howard Kendall and Trevor Francis based on performances.
"Alan has shown the credentials to be rewarded in the same way and I'm delighted I've convinced him to stay."

Stags to snap up Clare replacement
Evening Post, January 14, 2010

MANSFIELD Town have agreed to sign hitman Jon Shaw to fill the gap in their squad left by the departure of Daryl Clare.

The 6ft 1ins Sheffield-born player is set to join tomorrow from League Two leaders Rochdale on an 18-month contract.
Shaw, 26, will go straight into the Stags squad to travel to AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
Having found his opportunities at Spotland limited this season, he has already spent spells on loan in the Blue Square North at Barrow and Gateshead.
He was successful with the Bluebirds, bagging five goals in 11 games but started just one game on Tyneside.
Previously, Shaw has enjoyed productive spells at Halifax and Burton Albion having begun his career as a trainee at Sheffield Wednesday.
"It's been a hard time trying to get away from Rochdale, but I am very pleased to be joining Mansfield," said Shaw.

Striker Jon Shaw has left the club by mutual consent after struggling to make an impact at Spotland. Shaw signed for Dale in the summer of 2008 after an impressive season at Halifax Town but sadly the former Sheffield Wednesday trainee failed to secure a regular place and went on to play thirteen times for Dale scoring one goal.

His registration has been cancelled leaving him free to sign for another club and he's expected to sign for MANSFIELD TOWN very shortly.

The club would like to wish Jon all the very best for his future career.
