Whitlow handed Stags youth role
BBC
Mansfield Town have named Mike Whitlow as their new head of youth.

The former Leeds, Leicester, Bolton and Notts County defender replaces David Jervis who has now left the club.

Whitlow, 41, worked previously as a coach at Meadow Lane after retiring from playing, before taking up a position at Derby County's academy.

"It's exciting," Whitlow told BBC Radio Nottingham. "I've wanted to get back into full-time youth football for the last six months."

He is also aware of Mansfield's good track record record of bringing players through to the first team.

"I knew that when I took the job," he said. "Credit to the people who have done the job before, they've done an excellent job in bringing players through.

"I think youth development is getting these players to have that will, desire and attitude to go on and become professionals."

Whitlow, appointed by Stags boss David Holdsworth, will work closely with Football in the Community co-directors John Gaunt and John Hemingray.
