RIGHT full back Gary Silk is already being spoken of as a possible Player of the Year at Field Mill.
And, with the player's contract about to expire, Stags manager David Holdsworth seems set to open talks with him about a new deal.

On Friday he also revealed that Matt Somner and Scott Gardner were also involved in new contract talks.

"I hope to sit down with Gary and have a discussion and see what his thoughts are and see where we can go with it," he said on Thursday.

Silk is certainly enjoying his time at Field Mill and knows no-one will be guaranteed a place next season.

"Before the start of next season there will be a lot of players added to the squad and the manager has already brought some good ones in," he aid.

"So there is healthy competition here which is keeping us all on our toes.

"The manager has been good to work with so far - he is very organised and very passionate in everything he does.

"Team spirit is brilliant at the moment.

"We are working harder than we've ever worked but having a laugh at the same time.

"We know when we have to be serious but everyone is coming in with a smile on their faces which is good."

On Friday, the manager added: "All three have done well for me and the football club. I am keen to sit down to see what their requirements are.

"All three players are very good players. Silky has setepped up to the challenge recently and impressed me.

"But I have a budget here and won't over-step that for anybody. There will be no player on ridiculous wages.

"The initial response I have got (from the three players) is good."
